But here, as soon as Selina finds out Batman has died, she loses interest in the family. It becomes more about tying in with the current Batman and resetting Catwoman back to her status quo instead of focusing on a satisfying conclusion to this mob drama. There's not much action in the Catwoman: Vol 7 and overall I found the "machinations" just tedious instead of interesting. Nov 26, Mike rated it liked it Shelves: less-fun-than-it-should-beoh-well-onwards. And lo! It sure is nice to see Selina using all her skills to fight this war against other families: Maybe that's part of my disappointment with the previous volume: Selina was playing mob boss against everyone with more Catwoman: Vol 7 than her, and she was handicapping by letting Catwoman: Vol 7 else do the fun work. Where's the Shallow Comics reader enjoyment in that? Here we get started down that path, and then Snyder's whatever-the-fuck "killing" Batman takes a dump all over this storyline, and makes us wait while Selina suddenly decides Batman is more important than all-out gang war. And then Catwoman: Vol 7 sees it through anyway, so bully for her convictions eh? You know what though? Catwoman: Vol 7 find -died-and-Catwoman's-in-search-of-him subplot just distracting. It ruined the pacing, it does nothing to advance Selina's primary storyline just adds a measure of delayand honestly a "Batman's missing and all the players in Gotham have to show how they react to it" is a tired trope that overestimates the role that Batman plays in this many powerful people's lives. Surely not everyone is clutching their pearls or looting the streets as soon as he disappears? Here's a pretty blatant "couldn't be arsed to draw" moment: or maybe , even bankrupt, has access to magical always-upright- patterned fabrics And boy is the model for Cobblepot getting worse and worse - the looks like a cross between Danny DeVito and : Like something out of a horror version of Cabaret Does this story wrap up well? Well, it's tied up neatly, and there's a little tragedy mixed with , so it's at least taking the premise seriously. Though having Selina walk away entirely from the situation, while befitting her character, does little Catwoman: Vol 7 grow the character. All in all, I'm more than a little disappointed in Valentine's Catwoman arc though I'd guess that not nearly all of it is on her - the Bat-family editorial is still part of the DC shredditorial house, after all Selina wrings her hands far too much for a woman used to playing people, and there weren't exactly many enjoyable surprises in the story. Not on her: the rotating cast of artists, the overall art quality, the forced nature of the Batman subplot. I wish Valentine well, and I hope if she comes back to comics in the future she'll have more leverage and longevity to tell a really original and deep story. Apr 18, Anne rated it liked it Shelves: comicsgraphic-novelsread-in The 3 star rating is solely because Valentine is a solid writer, and she didn't turn Catwoman into a sex-fueled moron. Also, none of this: Because But did I actually enjoy reading this? I yawned my way through the entire thing. That was boring! Alright, alright! Let me rephrase that. It was boring to me. This version of Catwoman The 3 star rating is solely because Valentine is a solid writer, and she didn't turn Catwoman into a sex-fueled moron. This version of Catwoman: Vol 7 has everything I normally shy away from, wrapped up in one tidy package. I prefer a cleaner look in my comics, and I like the pictures to tell at least half of the story. Otherwise, I'd rather just pick up a novel. But when the whole story revolves around The Family, I start to nod off. I have no idea why, but I'm just not interested. And, no. I've never watched Scarface or any of the Godfather movies. Save your breath, it ain't gonna happen. Sue me. If you don't have much cape 'n tight action, my attention just dwindles down to almost nothing. Yeah, there are exceptions to that rule SagaI'm looking at you. This was more of a mafia story with a few Catwoman-y moments thrown in. All of the above is just personal preference, and I am in no way slamming the writer. She did a Catwoman: Vol 7 job, but it just wasn't enjoyable for me. Catwoman: Vol 7, if you happen to like all of the things that I just listed, this may be something that you should check out. Genevieve Catwoman: Vol 7 completes her year as Catwoman writer with this second Catwoman: Vol 7 I'd call it a second arc, but it's really all just one big story as Selina navigates the Gotham underworld from a very different perspective than usual. Everything hinges around her treatment of the Calabrese family; where she tried to ignore Catwoman and just take on the family side of things before, she now knows that in order to get ahead, she'll have to do both. So we now have Selina, as well as Eiko Hasigawa r Genevieve Valentine completes her year as Catwoman writer with this second volume; I'd call it a second arc, but it's really all just one big story as Selina navigates the Gotham underworld from a very different perspective than usual. David Messina picks up where Garry Brown left Catwoman: Vol 7 on Catwoman: Vol 7, pencilling all the issues here himself without any fill-ins, although he picks up an for the last few issues but there's no visible difference. His work reminds me of David Baldeon, especially Catwoman: Vol 7 faces, Catwoman: Vol 7 it's a lot more grounded Catwoman: Vol 7 has more realistic proportions than Baldeon's work; Lee Loughridge's gritty colour palette helps matters too - even the green of seems downplayed here, making the seedy underbelly of Gotham feel all sorts of dark and moody, exactly the the story needs. Themes of loss, family, balancing different aspects of your life, as well as revenge and how far you're willing to go for those you love are all present here; it's one of the more nuanced DC comics I've read as part of , and that alone deserves recognition. Catwoman: Vol 7 balanced, with a well-realised conclusion that whilst it does reset everything and allow Selina to return to her identity as if the past year Catwoman: Vol 7 happened is still infinitely enjoyable? Also yes. Appropriate and consistent artwork? Definite yes. Clever, well- explored themes that take the character to new and exciting places? A whole lot of yes. But is it worth reading? Also, Catwoman doesn't do much of anything interesting. She starts out constantly fighting Hammer and Sickle, two very bland, nigh-invincible villains that are also named Boris and Natasha ugh. Then, she's sucked into the Amazons Attack crossover. Finally, she decides she can't hack it as a mother, thus chucking the last 18 issues devoted to that story. This is a big step back from the last volume. Oct 17, Jen rated it really liked it Shelves: graphic-picture-comicsowned. Selina's role as a mother was dealt with in an interesting way here. Too rare has a been in such Catwoman: Vol 7 position where he or she juggles "work" let's not dismiss the fact that being Catwoman is a legitimate occupation and parenthood. I've never read any Catwoman comics before, but Catwoman Dies Catwoman: Vol 7 readily available at the local Catwoman: Vol 7 so I picked it up, and I have to say I'm very happy I did. The first issue or Catwoman: Vol 7 of this collected edition seems like I came into the series somewhere in the middle -- which I did -- but writer Will Pfeiffer does an excellent job of drawing in the reader regardless of not knowing any backstory. You can pick up this edition and enjoy it from the get-go. By the time I closed the book, I was act I've never read any Catwoman comics before, but Catwoman Dies was readily available at the local library so Catwoman: Vol 7 picked it up, and I have to say I'm very happy I did. By the time I closed the book, I was actually sad for Catwoman and now I want to know more. If I have the opportunity to pick up more issues, I most certainly will. Luckily, Selina Kyle the original Catwoman shows up soon enough to resume her Catwoman: Vol 7 and cat'o'nine tail translation: whippulling Catwoman: Vol 7 butt out of the proverbial . Talk about mean. None of these villains have any of what us regular folks call "redeeming qualities. The main thrust of this graphic novel is how Selina is adjusting to life as a mother, and when her identity is compromised, the baddies make it personal by coming after the only Catwoman: Vol 7 she has, forcing Selina to get personal-er. Some great cinematic stuff here by artists David and Alvaro Lopez. Yes, of course, ol' Bats makes a couple appearances. But Pfeiffer does a good job of maintaining that this is Catwoman's title, not Batman's Gotta say, there's an amazing gentleness about seeing the Caped Crusader cuddling a cooing six-month-old baby. It's 3 am as he stands in Selina's barren apartment, comforting her child, who's little hand is touching his chin. Selina narrates: "See, here's the thing people don't get about Bruce. They think he's all about beating up badguys or striking terror into the hearts of the Catwoman: Vol 7. But that's not it. That's not it at all. He's all about protecting the innocent. Let's just say it's Catwoman: Vol 7 good thing the baby is too young to remember some of the stuff that went on around her while she was Catwoman: Vol 7 in her crib. Highly recommended! Jul 20, Wing Kee rated it did not like it. Foot in mouth. This is a joke, this is simply a laugh out loud joke. I've been very vocal at least in my reviews that since Pfeifer took the reins of this series it has gone down the shitter, destroying everything that was good about the story and replacing it with poor writing, illogical character choices and just stupid stupid ideas. So what make this arc so memorable for me? Catwoman: Vol 7, this is the arc where Pfeifer pretty much erases all the terrible work he's done in 28 issues and removes Helena Foot in mouth. Well, this is the arc where Pfeifer pretty much erases all the terrible work he's done in 28 issues and removes Helena and this stupid status quo from Selina's life after 18 issues LOL we are back at square one, Catwoman: Vol 7 just wasted 28 issues of reading time for this. World: Not a fan of Lopez's art, it's and muddy and the characters are just not appealing. There is no world building it's pretty much ripping up the pieces of the old world building and using it for toilet paper. The little pieces Catwoman: Vol 7 we do get are boring and dull and attached to an event that in all honest should have nothing to do with Selina and this book in the first place what's happening in DC. Story: Laugh out loud stupid as this is pretty much a deletion of the last 28 issues of the book, a reboot. Pfiefer painted himself into a corner when he wanted to change the status quo and man he clearly did not plan ahead too well. The 3 stories in this book are all pointless, one being another fight with pointless villains with dumb motivations on revenge, two being a pointless Catwoman: Vol 7 poorly paced tie Catwoman: Vol 7 to the event, and three the laugh out loud retconing of his own work from the last two plus years. Nothing here is good Catwoman: Vol 7 the destruction of this little piece of Gotham and the characters created by Brubaker is now pretty much complete. Characters: Horrible, these are zombies, they are not the characters the readers expect them to be. They don't act and speak the way that they should. I've said it many times what Catwoman: Vol 7 happened with Slam is a travesty and same with Karon, Ted, and Holly. I'm not even going to go Catwoman: Vol 7 Selina and her characterization and her motivations. We started off this series with Selina coming back as Selina after faking her A writer blowing up his book is pretty much a sigh of poor choices, this book is Catwoman: Vol 7 of how bad it has been since 44 and all I can see now is hopefully with the blow up something can be found in this pile of ashes.
