Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} The Diversion by K.A. Applegate The Other (Applegate novel) The meet survivors of Elfangors Dome Ship, the GalaxyTree. One Andalite called Gafinilan-Estrif-Valad suffers from a genetic disease called Soolas Disease while the other, Mertil-Iscar-Elmand, is crippled, or a "vecol", as Ax puts it, missing half of his tail. Gafinilan attacks Marco when he gets too close to the human home he owns, while Ax comes to his defense. Both enter his home and Gafinilan asks to meet Axs prince, not realizing his "prince" is human, as Three had captured Mertil and had offered his release only if Gafinilan brought him a healthy adult Andalite. The Animorphs assume that since Soolas Disease is genetic, and the only cure is for Gafinilan to acquire and morph another Andalite, this is the reason why Gafinilan wanted to meet Axs "prince", not wanting to acquire Ax himself because he would prefer to morph the adult Andalite he believes Jake is, as Axs body would take too long to reach physical maturity. Jake agrees to meet with him, with the intention of laying a trap for Gafinilan, and they overpower him by force of numbers. When they tell Gafinilan what they assumed his plan was, he is shocked at the mere thought, as Andalites consider using morphing to escape an illness as an act of cowardice. He confesses his real intentions, justifying his attempt at betraying one of his own kind by saying he cares deeply about his friend Mertil, and he did what he was told to do by the Visser in order to ensure Mertils safety. Although still skeptical of Gafinilans motives, they join forces with him and help rescue Mertil from Visser Three. Ax, who is so far in the series seen as an honourable character, shows his open disapproval of Mertil and the thought that he should be treated with as much respect as other Andalites, on the grounds that he is disabled, which may have been a trait he picked up from his Andalite upbringing, as Andalites as a whole are shown in this book to not take their handicapped kind seriously. However, when Marco accuses his kind of being unfeeling, Ax points out that humans are similarly flawed, as people with handicaps are often pushed away from the limelight and kept hidden away in hospitals and institutions, instead of being allowed to live the kind of life they would have had, were they not disabled. The softer side of Marcos personality is also shown in this book, as he shows concern about how Mertil, a morph-incapable Andalite, would survive in a human world once his friend Gafinilan succumbs to his illness and passes away. He visits Mertil at the end of the book and offers his support and company, should Mertil ever feel he needed it. Although he fears that Mertil might regard his offer as impertinent, as Andalites are a proud race that do not like to be seen as vulnerable, Mertil thanks him, and appears to consider his offer.

(novel) The Illusion is the 33rd book in the Animorphs series, written by K.A. Applegate. It is known to have been ghostwritten by Ellen Geroux. It is narrated by Tobias. 1. Plot summary. The Yeerks have finished their anti-morphing ray and want to test it. Tobias comes up with a plan to trick the Yeerks into thinking that it doesnt work; if they capture him, they will try to use it on his hawk form, but hawk his true form now. Tobias acquires Ax - thus allowing him to demorph and reinforce the impression that he is a genuine Andalite - and then gets captured by the Yeerks. Rachel was supposed to be with him in fly morph to be able to rescue him and tell the rest where the lab was. However, sub-visser Taylor gave them an anesthetic so she couldnt grip to Tobias and fell to the floor. Tobias, alone and trapped, tries to get demorphed unsuccessfully since he is already demorphed. He is then tortured by the sadistic Taylor with a machine that controls the parts of the brain that induce pain and pleasure. He almost goes insane and nearly dies after receiving heightened, alternating doses of painful and pleasant sensations and memories. He sees painful memories of childhood neglect or battle, after seeing pleasant peaceful memories. This process nearly kills him. Here, he experienced an Utzum, later explained by Ax to be a vision ancient Andalites believed happened at the moment of death to comfort those crossing over. These images are supposed to be passed through DNA. Tobias is spoken to by his father Elfangor who shares with him his own memories of hardship, battle, his moments of questioning himself and his own actions. He reminds Tobias that he is part of a great tradition of warriors in order to comfort him before his death. Tobias is rescued by Ax and the other Animorphs. In the battle he persuades Rachel not to kill Taylor, so as not sink to her level. After the battle Tobias continues to question who and what he is. However he takes comfort in his relationship with Rachel and she kisses him for the first time. . The Warning , published in February 1998 and written by K.A. Applegate, is the sixteenth book in the Animorphs series. It is the fifth book narrated by Jake, and the fourth book with Jake as the sole narrator. Contents. Official Description. Jake's made a pretty amazing discovery. It seems like there may be other people who know about . Others who know about the Yeerks. Jake finds a Web site devoted to the Yeerks. And Jake, the other Animorphs, and Ax aren't sure it's too good to be true. But if they try to investigate the site and it's a trap, there's no way the Yeerks won't find out who they are. If they don't check it out, they'll never know if they're the only ones fighting. Whatever Jake and the others decide to do, they've got to move quickly, because Visser Three isn't the only one dying to meet them. Plot Summary. Jake is using his computer, where he types into a search engine "Yeerk". Expecting nothing, Jake is amazed to see that there was one match to the word. He later gathers the other Animorphs at Marco's house because Jake needed a computer and Marco's computer was better than his. He shows them the web page, which is entirely devoted to letting the world know about the Yeerks. Jake clicks on the "Types of Yeerks" page, which shows drawing of different aliens, one of which looks just like a Hork-Bajir. Marco, Cassie, and Rachel think that the page is either a mix of truth and lies, or just a coincidence. Jake then clicks onto a list of known Controllers and points to the name "Chapman". He wonders why whoever put the site together doesn't mention The Sharing, which means either they don't know about The Sharing or this is a Yeerk trap. Cassie decides that they should check out the chat room, but Jake's not sure it's safe, Marco offers to hack the system, but Ax offers to encode Marco's software in a way that will make it impossible for anyone to trace them. Marco reluctantly agrees and Ax sits down and types in a code making Marco's computer hack-proof in just three minutes. In the chat room, the Animorphs watch a conversation that's going on, one person that goes by username "Chazz" talks about how serious the Yeerk threat is, while username "Gump8293" is worried because his dad maybe a Controller. The Animorphs believe this could be a Yeerk scam, but Cassie isn't so sure. She thinks there's something real about the people in the chatroom, especially Gump. Jake also has the same feeling, but Ax couldn't tell, and Marco thinks it's a little of both: the web page was created by Yeerks to help them locate any humans who knows about them, while at the same time, it got a little out of the control. Jake then asks Ax to hack in and penetrate the protected screen name files, but after a few minutes of typing furiously, he is unable to get into Web Access America's central computer. Marco then comes up with an idea: they travel to WAA's main office, sneak in and get the real names behind the screen names from the main computers. The Animorphs gather at the airport on a Saturday morning. Because it would be too far away for them to travel to and back from WAA's main office. Their plan is to morph into houseflies and sneak on board the plane. At Web Access America, Marco and Ax hack into the WAA records and discover the identities of some of the screen names on the Yeerk website. They need a distraction, so the children morph and create a spectacle for anyone working in the offices. One of the users from the website is the founder of WAA himself, Joe Bob Fenestre – the second richest man in the country. Jake in rhinoceros morph (inside cover) Back home, Jake needs to form a new plan to infiltrate Joe Bob Fenestre's multi-million dollar compound. Cassie objects, instead wanting to save a young child on the Yeerk website going by the screen name of Gump from confessing to his Controller father what he knows. Jake and the others overrule Cassie, deciding that Fenestre is the more pressing matter. Jake, without any prior intelligence or preparation, sends himself and the Animorphs to the billionaire's property. They are immediately attacked by gun-toting humans and pack hounds, and Rachel is shocked unconscious by a bug zapper. Ax is captured by the dogs. Jake and the others, shaken, need to find another way to break in. Jake travels to The Gardens zoo complex, and acquires a rhinoceros morph. He morphs and breaks through the entrance to the Fenestre mansion, impervious to human shotguns. The others follow, and morph their standard battle morphs. They find Fenestre, along with Rachel and Ax in a suspended time state known as "biostasis". The Yeerk controlling Fenestre explains to Jake, Cassie, Marco and Tobias that he is Visser Three's twin brother – Esplin 9466 Lesser. Visser Three, unwilling to share his power with his sibling, banished him to Earth as a lowly telephone operator. Esplin, combining his Yeerk technical knowledge with his host's human knowledge, created a web service that would serve as a vast pool of information for the Yeerk invasion. The Visser was enraged, and has been plotting to kill him. Jake asks Esplin how he survived without a Yeerk pool. Esplin unemotionally explains that he finds human-Controllers on the Yeerk forum. Every three days he has them kidnapped, splits the hosts' heads open, and feeds on the Yeerk inside. Fenestre admits that he is a cannibal serial killer. A horrified Cassie tries to attack him, but Jake stops her. He'd rather allow Esplin to kill as many Yeerks as he could – even it means sacrificing the host. Cassie is enraged. Jake threatens Esplin, and they leave with Rachel and Ax. The next day at school, Jake looks for Cassie, but he doesn't see her and realizes that she wasn't in school and Jake knew exactly where she was. He makes his way to the school roof and flies off in his falcon morph, and searches around for the nearest elementary school, where he spots Cassie in wolf morph speaking to a young boy. The boy pets Cassie and walks back to his classmates, and Cassie jumps the fence and fades towards some nearby trees. She explains to Jake that she pretended to be a magic, talking wolf to Gump, and told him not to go onto the chat room again, to not talk about Yeerks to his father, and to never trust his father. Cassie then cries over doing such a terrible thing, but Jake explains to her that it was the best she could and that it is difficult to fight evil without doing some along the way. She walks away and Jake doesn't stop her. A few days later, the news reports a fire at Fenestre's mansion, with Jake remarking that Fenestre's protection from the Animorphs no longer exists. The question of who committed the arson is left open to interpretation, although it is heavily implied that one or more members of the Animorphs were responsible. The Diversion. The Diversion , published in December 2000 and written by Lisa Harkrader based on an outline by K.A. Applegate, is the forty-ninth book in the Animorphs series. It is the eleventh book narrated by Tobias and the sixth and final book with Tobias as the sole narrator. Contents. Official Description. The Yeerks are finally starting to realize that the "Andalite bandits" are probably not aliens at all. They're finally starting to realize that maybe they've been dealing with humans all along. And no one - especially the newly appointed Visser One - is happy with this knowledge. Not happy at all. When Tobias, the other Animorphs, and Ax realize that the Yeerks are about to find them, it's by accident. But that doesn't make any less serious. Because in a war, one side wins. And one side loses. Plot Summary. The Yeerks begin to realize the "Andalite bandits" are humans. The Animorphs discover the Yeerks have been testing the DNA patterns in the blood they have left in their countless battles. When they discover the traces of human DNA they begin running massive amounts of tests on blood which has been stored in the area in order to discover a genetic match or root out the Animorphs' families. Using this process a genetic match between Tobias and his mother, Loren, is discovered and gives the Yeerks proof that at least some the 'Andalite bandits' are in fact human. They go through a brutal battle at the laboratory where they discover this information in which Marco is nearly killed. After they retreat to Cassie's barn, Jake orders that they all go home and 'sleep on it', the Animorphs will meet in the morning to decide whether or not to evacuate their families thereby revealing their identities and taking the fight into the open. Tobias does not return to his meadow but goes to the address the blood databank gave for his mother. He is crestfallen to discover that it is only a few blocks from the house in which he lived with his uncle yet his mother never once came to visit him or showed any interest in her son at all. Tobias easily spots that his mother is being watched by the Yeerks. He observes Loren leaving the house with a guide dog, and quickly realizes that Loren is blind. With the guide dog she walks to a church where she apparently volunteers as a crisis phone line operator, and Tobias follows her. In the morning the Animorphs unanimously agree to immediately evacuate their families. Cassie and Rachel reveal to their families the truth of the invasion and evacuate them to the Hork-Bajir valley. Ax helps with rescuing Rachel's mother and sisters. Jake tries to rescue his parents as well with the plan that they will subdue Tom and starve the Yeerk out of him at long last freeing Jake's brother. But they appear to be out of the house when the Animorphs arrive, in fact Tom's Yeerk has already had Jake's parents infested and they spring a trap for the waiting Animorphs. They escape and Jake morphs falcon in front of the Yeerks, because he wants to show that he has been fighting all along to inspire fear in the Yeerks and hope in his family that he will rescue them. Tobias morphs Champ, his mother's guide dog, and spends the night at his mother's house. In the morning he finally meets Loren, who he discovers had lost her memory in an accident years before. But she knew she did have a son, and hoped that he was happy. Tobias laments the fact that he never knew her, and tells her he needed a mother. Tobias then hatches a scheme to help Loren escape by giving her the morphing power. She morphs Tobias in hawk form and they embark on a desperate escape which leads to another battle that they barely escape. During the battle Loren throws herself in front of danger to protect Tobias and is nearly killed. Loren is then evacuated to the Hork-Bajir valley. The morphing ability restores Loren's vision, but not her memories. Tobias still longs for his mother's love and affection which she displays for her beloved guide dog but not for him, however Tobias remembers that she did throw herself in front of danger to protect Tobias. The book ends with Jake as an emotional wreck and the Animorphs safely evacuated to the Hork-Bajir valley with their families. Tobias sits beside Jake and thinks that he and Jake have almost switched places, Tobias has always been the loner without a family and now his family is here with him and Jake is all alone. Tobias reassures Jake that they will keep fighting and they will rescue his family. Animorphs Books In Order. Animorphs is a series of Sci-Fi Fantasy novels written by K. A. Applegate. The books follow the exploits of a group of young adults who can take the shape of different animals. The Animorphs series began publication in 1996. K. A. Applegate proceeded to produce over fifty books in the series, this not including the companion books set within the same continuity. The Animorphs novels follow the exploits of Cassie, Jake, Rachel, Marco, and Tobias. Along with an alien they call Ax, the teens have the ability to take the shape of the animals they touch. The kids were granted this special power so that they could participate in a great battle against the Yeerks, a parasitic alien race hell-bent on world domination. The Yeerks operate by entering living organisms, merging with their brains and driving the vessel as one would a car. By the time the Animorphs series kicks off, the Yeerks have already begun infiltrating the human race, carrying out a silent invasion by slowly taking over individuals of note and using their resources to open the way for a full-scale invasion. The Animorphs, as they eventually begin to call themselves, were thrust into the battle against the Yeerks when they met Ax, a member of an alien race called the Andalites who created the transformation technology the kids use to change shape. The Animorphs are each quite powerful in their own right, especially if they can gain access to the abilities of a particularly useful insect or animal. However, Jake and crew are not without their limitations. For one thing, they can only remain in the shape of their chosen animal for a short period of time. A failure to return to human shape before the allotted time limit elapses typically leads to the individual in question remaining in their animal form forever. This restriction is a significant problem for the group because whenever they take the shape of any given animal, there is a chance that their natural intelligence will be overwhelmed by their animal’s natural instincts. It takes considerable willpower for one to take an animal’s shape whilst also maintaining their human intelligence. Additionally, the Animorphs do not have the power to rapidly change from animal to animal. In order to change shape from one animal to another, they must first return to human form, a limitation that can sometimes expose them to danger. The author has a strong love for animals and that is what drove her to create the Animorphs series. She thought it would be cool to create a cast of young characters who could inhabit the minds of popular animals like tigers and bears. Applegate allows her imagination to inspire her. However, she also does a lot of research. Her goal is to make sure that when her characters take animal form their actions are accurate and grounded. Even though the Animorphs books are fantastical in nature and explore a battle for survival between humans and aliens, a lot of emphases is placed on the lives and personal struggles of the characters. Jake typically takes center stage because he is the leader of the group. Jake knew every single one of the other characters even before their battle against the Yeerks began. As such, his knowledge of their capabilities positioned him best to utilize their attributes in battle. Rachel normally fills the position of warrior in the group because she is so bloodthirsty. Her gymnastic skills are an asset to the team. The series hints at a potential relationship between Rachel and Tobias. Tobias struggled with bullies before he got his powers. An orphan who lives with his aunt and uncle, Tobias has self-esteem issues. Cassie is the brain of the group. The fact that her parents are veterinarians makes her the most knowledgeable when it comes to animals. Marco is the clown of the team. Despite being the comic relief character, his pragmatism comes in handy for Jake whenever he has a difficult decision to make. Ax rounds out the team, an alien being whose brother died after giving the kids their morphing powers. The Animorphs books are short, simple and straightforward. They are written with children in mind and only contain mild violence. +Adaptations The Animorphs series became a television show in 1998. Also called ‘Animorphs’, the show ran for two years, accruing 26 episodes in the process. +The Author K.A. Applegate is an American author that writes science fiction and fantasy for children. Born in 1956 in Ann Arbor, Applegate has won numerous awards for her children’s works which include Animorphs and Everworld. It should be noted that K.A. Applegate wrote the Animorphs books with her husband, Michael Grant. +The Invasion Something has gone wrong. People don’t seem right anymore. And Jake knows why. He was there with his friends when a light crashed from the sky. They all thought it was a plane. And they were partially right. Though, this particular plane came from space. That was only of the most bizarre night of Jake’s life. He learned that the earth had come under assault from an evil race of aliens and only he and his friends could fight to save it, but only if they took the power being offered to them. Now Jake and his friends know the truth. And they also have the power to change into whatever animal they touch. They are ready to save mankind. But the fight won’t be easy. Their enemy can hide in plain sight. Once the Yeerks sneak their way into a person’s brain, identifying them becomes a challenge. Even more challenging is getting that person free from the control of their parasite assailant before they can do serious harm to the human race. But for all those difficulties, Jake and his friends cannot afford to throw in the towel, not when the future is at stake. +The Visitor No one knows what Rachel and her friends can do. They don’t know about the fight to save humanity that has been ignited. If they did, they would tell Rachel how cool they think it is to be an Animorph. But Rachel knows that her power isn’t all fun and games, especially when she learns that her best friend’s father might be under the control of evil aliens.
