We put our love into action through Christian service, taking Jesus’ words to heart, “I came not to be served but to serve and to give my life as a ransom for others” (MT 20:28). With our hectic lifestyles, our time is a valuable commodity. The demands on our time and energy with our job and family may make us feel stressed and stretched. So, if we cannot give as much of our time, maybe we can financially support those who provide the needed services in our local community. The Pastoral Services Appeal (PSA) is a way that we can share Christ’s light and inspi- re others to do the same in our community. The PSA provides essential funding that support spiritual formation, religious education, and outreach across our Diocese. This year’s St. Joachim goal is $77,000, and moneys raised above that amount will be returned to help us to construct our much-needed new restrooms. We need another $300,000 to meet our construction goal. Some ways the 2021 PSA helps Saint Joachim Parish include: • Financial support for 44 retired diocesan priests, a number expected to double over the next 10 years. • Training 24 Orange seminarians and the continuing education of priests and deacons. St. Joachim has two men preparing to become deacons, and one will be ordained in October. We have a young seminarian at Mt. Angel Seminary. • Provide educational support to over 17,000 families in our Catholic Schools system. St. Joachim School has 244 students enro- lled with a waiting list for next year. • Provide support services to more than 342,000 families through Catholic Charities of Orange County.
