Rock-A-Field is back on track!

The eleventh anniversary of Luxembourg's open air is coming up in 2016. Dates to firmly mark in your calendar are July 9 and 10 at the Herchesfeld in Roeser.

Yes, indeed! The dates were moved again by one week from the 2015 edition, in order to coincide with the official launch of the summer holiday period. And of course, Rock-A-Field 2016 will offer the full camping experience once more: as usual from Friday to Monday, but this time we’ll have a special RAF Warm-Up Event on the camping grounds on Friday July 8, especially reserved for the campers.

After last year's edition, the most positive feedback from the audience were the big changes made within the festival grounds as compared to the previous years, such as the space available for the audience and the mighty Food Village.

Following last year’s innovation the A-Crew will continue to put all efforts in improving the quality and feel of the event for the punters.

Meaning? - Even more diversified Food Village - Bigger space and chill-out lounges for the audience - A new central stage called ‘The Beach’, dedicated to the local HipHop scene, with some new features to even top last years Mudam Overshoot Swing - And of course the 2 main stages, the A and the BGL BNP Paribas Startin’ Stage

So far, we’ve secured 18 acts (poster attached), and we are still working on the final line-up. Besides Rock, Electro and Alternative Grooves, we have expanded the menu to HipHop and serious Gipsy Music.

Besides that, you won't miss the UEFA European Cup Final. Watch it with your friends live on our our big public viewing screen.

Our aim is to offer the widest possible choice of music, with bands coming from the UK, USA, France, Germany, Austria, and the rest of the world.

Feel free to check up on our website www.rockafield.lu, which will be regulary updated from now.

ROCK-A-FIELD LINE-UP 2016

AUSTINN

Austinn from Luxembourg produce a fresh and distinctive indie-pop sound. Loaded with lush guitars, catchy melodies and straightforward vocals, the young band is certainly one of the most promising newcomer acts to have emerged lately. Drawing comparisons to Kooks and Bloc Party, Austinn delivers a wealth of addictive tunes built on their own brand of songwriting, instrumentation and vocal harmonies. After touring Europe and the UK with Circa Waves in the past, Austinn are now back from Los Angeles, where they have recorded their debut EP.

BILDERBUCH

BRING ME THE HORIZON

From their relatively straightforward, if never less than striking metalcore beginnings in 2003, BMTH have become that rarest of bands: the group that can expand both their own, well, horizons and everyone else’s. They’re the fastest growing rock band on the planet because, in a world where too many bands stay safely in their designated lanes, BMTH are busting out of theirs and taking their hardcore fans with them, all the while attracting new listeners. 2013’s Sempiternal – a huge, genre- splicing that set out BMTH’s stall as the most ambitious of modern metal bands – had been an all-out raging success. Their fifth album, That’s The Spirit, is, like all the best , different to what’s come before, but every bit as dazzling. It’s an album destined to infiltrate, subvert and ultimately change mainstream culture around the world. A gateway drug for a new rock generation...

DEICHKIND

Niveau Weshalb Warum?! Das dürfen Sie nicht verpassen! BÄM!!!

FRESHDAX

Freshdax ass dee coolsten Hip Hop-Duo vu Lëtzebuerg, deen d'Rad zwar net nei erfënnt, awer de Pneu frësch oppompelt... No "Ziel mir net däi Liewen" sinn de Julien Jools Primout an de Jacques "StA" Rasic elo zréck mat "Alles Beim Alen, Alen". Freshdax hëllt den Hip Hop aus senger Comfort Zone vu bëllegem Sex a nach méi bëllege Bijouen eraus, a setzt en dohinner zréck, wou en higehéiert: Ënnert d’Leit. Freshax ass de Mëttelfanger un all d'Weekend-Revoluzzer, déi sech am Starbucks anchecken fir un hirem Buch ze schreiwen, an déi d’Welt mat Likes wëlle veränneren.

GHINZU

Ghinzu have made a triumphant return to Luxembourg last year. Their totally packed show at the A has rocked the capital beyond belief. Reason enough to make a fuss about them! A band with a relaxed, radical and original rhythm section, producing a soaring, elastic groove in perfect contrast to the sound of the guitar and doublebass. Ghinzu exudes the elegance in modern music. This vicious aesthetic evokes the essential elements in pop: bass duos, piano ballads accompanied by cutting breakbeats, distortions and self-deprecating humour. The lyrics exude a kind of venomous dandyism, a sarcastic yet tender vision that draws out social vignettes showcasing the heroes of daily sex and taunting the aristocracy. This exquisite finesse clashes with the controlled and jubilant anarchy of their live shows. Everyone has the right to boredom, and only a handful have the duty and talent to fight it - Ghinzu is one of them.

GOGOL BORDELLO

Gogol Bordello has spent over a decade electrifying audiences the world over with its internationally acclaimed gipsy-punk sound. A touring force, the band averages 200+ shows a year. As innovators, their mindblowingly supercharged music is picking up elements from metal, rap, flamenco, roots reggae and dub along the way. Their legendary live shows have earned Gogol Bordello a global following and critical praise. Frontman Eugene Hutz founded Gogol Bordello in New York City in 1999, after leaving Ukraine in the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster.

PAROV STELAR

Marcus Füreder, better known by his stage name Parov Stelar, is an Austrian musician, producer and DJ. The Parov Stelar Band achieved an immediate breakthrough in the international electronic music scene in 2004. Their specific approach to music production, combined with a proven sense of sound aesthetics, led to a massive reaction from audiences and colleagues all around the world, giving Parov Stelar the reputation of being the founder of a new genre: Electro Swing. It's sampling on the highest level, basically, and combining different music styles into something completely new and mindblowingly efficient live. Parov Stelar is Austria’s most successful international artist and won 3 Amadeus Austrian Music Awards in 2013 (Best Live Act, Best Electronic Act, Best Album) and 1 in 2014 (Best Live Act). Parov Stelar worked with Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga, Marvin Gaye, Lana Del Rey, Brian Ferry and many more. Parov Stelar Band counts in excess of 100 million views on Youtube, and that's about the number of people also, they'll be able to get to dance in front of their stage at any given time...

PIXIES

They’re back! They’re still brilliant! God save the Pixies! While Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having blazed the trail for artists from Nirvana to Radiohead to Pearl Jam, today, a whole new generation of music fans are discovering their iconic “loud quiet loud” signature sound. After five genre-defining studio albums, Pixies disbanded in 1993, and then launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds all over the globe for seven years, a longer period of time than they were a band originally. The latest release, Indie Cindy, is Pixies’ first full album of new material in more than 20 years. And it's a vintage Pixie-ian meld of garage punk and anthemic pop choruses.

PUGGY

Matthew Irons from England, Romain Descamps from France and Egil "Ziggy" Franzen from Sweden go under the bandname of Puggy… from Belgium! Indeed, they’ve first met at the Jazz School in Brussels. Puggy are seriously groovy, their influence is growing and with Dubois Died Today, the trio delivered a gem of a debut album. With baroque piano, soaring vocals and unpredictable Arcade Fire style formats, the trio toured Europe with Incubus in the past, they’ve opened for the Smashing Pumpkins and headlined shows in England, France and Belgium. It’s about time they’re scheduled to play RAF! Check out the new single Lonely Town!

STEVE AOKI

When Aoki was just 18, he was organising concerts for hardcore punks and running a . He went on to become a DJ entrepreneur. Now, at 38, Aoki runs restaurants, a DJ management agency and a clothing line, and markets headphones. Cameo roles in films and on TV have tapped into new target audiences. His page boasts 7.5m likes on Facebook and he performed 143 shows in 2015. Steve Aoki was the first to understand that a 21st-century DJ couldn't just spin records, but had to be a brand and sell a lifestyle. The guy has the discipline of a top-level sports star. And he can party with a passion. Aoki has turned the DJ into a rock star. He headbangs on stage, cracks open bottles of Champagne and showers it over the ladies in the front row. The highlight of any Aoki show is the legendary cake fight with the crowd.

THE 1975

I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It is the follow-up to The 1975’s million-selling self-titled debut. It is a bold and brilliant record made up of infectious pop hooks and sprawling electro sonics, an ambitious stride forward for one of the UK’s most exciting young bands. It will be preceded by the gospel-tinged The Sound, which follows the hysterically- received Love Me and UGH!. The 1975 have had the sort of breakthrough that only happens once a decade. Their debut revealed a band -- Matt Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald and George Daniel -- who could blend accessible and anthemic choruses with an artistic aesthetic. The 1975 toured the world, playing sold-out shows from Kuala Lumpur to San Francisco. Their latest release will be one of the most important of 2016. The 1975 have set a benchmark that will be hard to follow.

TOMMEK

Den Tommek mécht lëtzebuergesche Rap, dee sech duerch säi Wuertwitz auszeechent. Kombinéiert mat senger realitéitsnoer Lyrik entsteet frëschen a facetteräichen Hip Hop, deen d’Balance tëschent Ënnerhalung an Inhalt fënnt. Den Debutalbum "Tëschent Humor a Wourécht" koum am Abrëll 2015 eraus.

TUYS

That's right! It's Tuys, not toys. They won‘t explain it, it doesn't matter how you pronounce it either, just keep it in your mind! Their story began in Dudelange in 2007. They had their first rehearsal at the age of ten, their first TV-appearance at thirteen and their first Rockhal gig at fourteen. Sam, Tun and Kay applied for every newcomer contest around and earned some vital experience with every gig. After their single People, one of the hottest tunes from Luxembourg on Eldoradio in 2012, they've released their first EP in 2013. Yann joined on bass and backing vocals, and the chaps are taking the whole thing to a new level with new songs.

TYLER, THE CREATOR

The US-rapper Tyler, the Creator is quite a phenomenon... He's been banned from the UK last year because of the nature of his lyrics. The Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All co-founder and frontman had to cancel appearances at Reading and Leeds festivals, as he's been turned away at the border from immigration officers. The same s**t happened a while ago in New Zealand and Australia, where he was deemed a "threat to public order and the public interest". But Tyler's moved on from these contested lyrics. He always moves on. Banning him on the basis of homophobia and terrorism would go down as one of the stupidest and most ham-fisted attempts to clamp down on popular culture since the BBC forced Massive Attack and Bomb the Bass to change their names during the 1991 Gulf War. Tyler has always been cartoonish, creating art from his neurosis, his lyrics acting as a world in themselves. As a matter of fact, Tyler, The Creator is genuinely one of the biggest rappers in the US at the moment, not even half as dim-witted as Kanye West...

VITALIC

Vitalic va droit au but.
