March 2016

Dear Spouse/Companion of the District Governor-Elect:

Hello from Tennessee, USA! As the spouse of First Vice President Chancellor Bob Corlew, it is my pleasure to congratulate you on the election of your partner in service as district governor for the 2016-2017 Lions year. As a partner in service myself, I understand the shared commitment and teamwork that is required to ensure a successful term. I know that this will be an exciting and rewarding year for you, serving together, encouraging and supporting each other along the way.

I hope you are planning to join your spouse/companion at the 2016 District Governors-Elect Seminar and International Convention Fukuoka, . Both the Seminar and Convention offer several occasions during which you can learn more about our association, the roles and responsibilities of the district governor, and about the experiences of other spouses/companions from around the world.

While the focus of the DGE Seminar is on the development of next year’s district governors, your role as the spouse/companion of a district governor is also very important and vital to his or her success. For this reason, I invite you to attend the DGE Seminar session designed for spouses/companions, as well as the other DGE Seminar events to which you are invited. Please take advantage of this invaluable opportunity to learn not only from the seminar presenters, but from fellow spouses/companions as well.

This mailing includes the 2016-2017 District Governor Spouse/Companion Guide, an important resource that will help to ensure that you are prepared for the year ahead. In addition to essential Lions information and descriptions of your responsibilities, the guide also contains information that will be useful throughout the 2016-2017 Lions year.

This mailing also includes: • A map of the area surrounding the Sun Palace (DGE General Sessions and classrooms) and the Fukuoka International Congress Center (DGE classrooms) • Information about our Centennial Celebration • Information regarding transportation, area restaurants, local attractions, and tours For the 2016-2017 Lions year, Vice President Bob has chosen the theme, New Mountains to Climb, using mountains as a metaphor for the individual challenges and opportunities Lions face. Climbing these mountains provides a chance for Lions to make the world better.

As we celebrate 100 years of Lions service, we honor our past and embrace our present. However it is our future for which we must plan. If we are to ascend our next mountain, we must lay out a path in front of us, marking our trail for future generations of Lions who follow and preserving our tradition of service.

Additional information about the 2016-2017 International Theme and other resources related to the 2016 DGE Seminar can be found on the LCI website at www.lionsclubs.org (type “DGE Seminar Information” into the Search box in the upper right corner of the homepage).

I appreciate your enthusiasm as you embrace this opportunity, and on behalf of those who have already served and will continue to serve, thank you. Vice President Bob and I look forward to meeting you in Fukuoka. Together, we will dedicate ourselves to making the world a better place through our service in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Dianne Corlew Spouse of First Vice President Chancellor Bob Corlew

District Governors-Elect Seminar 2016

What is your mountain to climb?

Where There's a NEED, There's a LION!

When it comes to meeting challenges, our response is simple: We serve. In over 200 countries, in hospitals and senior centers, in regions battered by natural disaster, in schools and eyeglass recycling centers, Lions are doing community volunteer work, helping, leading, planning and supporting. Because we're local, we can serve the unique needs of the communities we live in. And because we're global, we can address challenges that go beyond borders.

Come to the Spouse/Companion Program during the DGE Seminar to find out about an exciting opportunity for DGE Spouses/Companions to make a huge impact during our Centennial year! Are you up for the challenge?
