12.2 Housing

The housing costs in Southgate are much less than in the Greater Toronto Area. Single-detached houses on the resale market are listed between $200,000 and $400,000.

There are 2 new housing developments in Dundalk going through the subdivision process and construction should began in late 2017. Housing in the developments will start in the $300,000’s. The housing developments contain over 850 houses which will double the population in Dundalk.

Specialist High Skills Major

A Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) is a Ministry-approved specialized program that allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and assists in their transition from secondary school to apprenticeship training, college, university or the workplace.

The Library is located in Mount Forest which is located south of western Southgate. The library was refurnished incorporating high-tech features and almost doubled in size in 2010. 12.6.5 Mount Forest Recreation

The western part of Southgate is served by the Mount Forest & District Sports Complex which opened in 2008. It contains an Olympic size ice surface, walking track and numerous rooms for rental. The Community Hall has a licensed capacity of 430 people, the Leisure Hall can hold 120 and various meeting rooms from 35 – 95 are available.

Mount Forest has a curling clubs, swimming pools, lawn bowling clubs, snowmobile clubs, baseball diamonds, soccer pitches, playgrounds and a skateboard park. These facilities are supported by vibrant Minor Hockey, Minor Ball and Soccer Associations and community service groups that organize youth athletic activities. Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Dance and other programs are also offered.
