SUNDAY 27th SEPTEMBER 2009 BERWYNS (LLANDRILLO) Will all B plus walkers have boots on the coach at Heswall. There is no coach stop before the start of the walk

A WALK Staring from Llandrillo we head northeast to Afon Llynor and follow the valley east then southeast to the Memorial Stone at Pen Bwlch Llandrillo. We then turn south to ascend and traverse the ridge to , Cadair Berwyn and before heading southwest for a long and gradual descent to meet a track at Llechwedd Groes. We follow the track then down into Cwm Pennant then it's field paths and minor roads back to Llandrillo. NB There are several boggy patches to negotiate. DISTANCE: 25.8km (16 miles) 22 POINTS ASCENT 915m (3000ft) B PLUS WALK The walk starts at Glyndyfrwy (SJ 152 426) heading south on a track leading to Ceriog Forest where we turn westwards to ascend Moel Fferna, the highest point on the route. The descent is by moor land and forest paths to Cynwyd where we join the old railway line which leads to Llandrillo. DISTANCE: 20.2km (12.5 miles) 16 POINTS ASCENT 550m (1800ft) B MINUS WALK From Llandrillo we head east, with a gradual climb on a wide track passing Tyn-y-cae-mawr and Pont Rhyd-yr-hydd to reach the Memorial Stone at Pen Bwlch Llandrillo. We now head south then south west over the moors (some boggy terrain) to start our ascent of Cadir Browen (2,558ft). From the summit we descend north west to join a track passing Moel Pearce and Ty-uchaf (Bronze Stone Age Circle) and then west to join the path we started on and into Llandrillo. DISTANCE: 15.3km (9½ miles) 14 POINTS ASCENT 650m (2130ft) C WALK Starting at Llandrillo we take the road uphill for Cwm Pennant. We skirt the hills above Afon Dinam climbing through woods and high pastures to attain open moorland. The track continues up to join the pass between Bala and Llangynog. We now head up the road to join a track which we follow down into Coed Llystyn Forest. Leaving the forest at Coed Ffridd we head back to Llandrillo by track and road. DISTANCE: 12.9km (8 miles) 10 POINTS ASCENT 305m (1000ft)
