Samoan Prime Minister welcomes ICC EAP

ICC EA P Regional Project Officer Nick Frayne was honoured to have a meeting with Samoan Prime Ministe r and Samoan International Cricket Association (SICA) Chairman The Hon. Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi.

Mr. Frayne was in Samoa to announce the staging of the 2009 Pepsi ICC EAP Cricket Trophy would

be held in September in Apia, Samoa.

The trip included meeting with potential tournament sponsors, looking at prospective

accommodation options and inspecting the facilities on offer.

“I have no doubt that Samoa will prove to be a fantastic host of our Senior Men s Tournament, with such ’ outstanding facilities on offer.”

“The S amoa International Cricket Association are very fortunate and I am sure honoured to have The Hon. P rime Minister as Chairman, and I am sure that under his guidance cricket will continue to prosper not onl y in Apia, but also in Savaii. Frayne said. ”

“It was very pleasing to see 5 new pitches in Savaii, particularly as they are based at schools, which will be an e normous help in improving Samoa participation at grass roots levels , said Frayne. ”

The 20 09 Pepsi ICC EAP Cricket Trophy will be played in September 2009 in Apia, Samoa.

EAP women cricketers to attend World Cup

Australia and New Zealand to host 4 EAP women cricketers

Cricket (CA) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC), in conjunction with the International Cricket Council (ICC) East Asia – Pacific (EAP) D evelopment Programme, have awarded 4 women cricketers from the EAP region the opportunity to be part of their respective

ICC Women’s World Cup 2009 preparations.

As part of an initiative to help with the development o f the most talented EAP women cricketers, the selected players will be exposed to an elite cricket program both on and off the field, providing a behind the scenes look at the lead up to the pinnacle of Women s cricket, ’ the ICC Women’s World Cup 2009.

Their in volvement will include attending and participating in training sessions, team meetings, recovery sessions as well as watching the clash b etween Australia and New Zealand. In addition to this, the selected players will form a relationship with a local team, and particip ate in various development activities.

The sel ected players are:

Pauke Siaka – Papua New Guinea (AUSTRALIA)

Pauke i s a right arm fast bowler and right handed opening batsman. She plays for the Coasters in the Port Moresby Competition, and is th the 5 highest run scorer for Season 08/09 averaging 27.5. Pauke played in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier in in 2008, ta king 4 from 3 matches.

Ura Rigana – Papua New Guinea (AUSTRALIA)

Ura is a right hand number 3 batsman and right arm medium pacer and plays for the United Cricket Club in Port Moresby, PNG. She had an outstanding 2008/09 season, finishing as the 2nd highest run scorer averaging 45.75. Ura also took 8 wickets at an average of

7.25. She was part of the PNG side that participated in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier in South Africa. Ura’s best figures are 5 w ickets for 1 run.

EAP Officials selected for World Cup

Four EAP officials have been rewarded for all their hard work with selection in various roles for the th ICC Women’s World Cup in Sydney from the 7 to 22nd March 2009.

EAP’s own Brian Aldridge has been selected as Tournament Referee for the Super Six Stage and

Final of the World Cup, while PNG’s Lakani Oala, Shizuka Kubota and Ema Kuribayashi from Japan Indonesia s Shahul Hameed and Japan s Neil ’ ’ at the North Sydney Oval. Harrison.

Shizuka Kubota – Japan (NEW ZEALAND)

Shizuka is a right hand number 4 batsman and first change medium pace bowler, and is very versatile in the field. Shizuka is the

Captain of L-Wyverns Cricket Club and averaged 22.5 with the bat in 2008/09. She represented Japan at the ICC EAP Women’s Cricket Challen ge in 2006 in Papua New Guinea.

Ema Kuribayashi – Japan (NEW ZEALAND)

Ema is a left handed top order batsman and right arm off-spinner, and plays with the L-Wyverns Cricket Club. Ema is currently playing with the East Christchurch Shirley Cricket Club in New Zealand, where her highest score so far is 39 and her best bowling figures are 3 wickets for 28 runs. Ema averaged 50 in the ICC EAP Women’s Cricket Challenge held in Port Moresby, PNG in 2006. Ema’s favourite player i s Belinda Clarke.

2nd Etihad Philippine International Cricket 6’s 20-22 February 2009 Clark Freeport, Pampanga

The weekend before last marked the 2nd Annual Philippine International Cricket 6’s tournament at the Parade Grou nd in Clark Freeport, Pampanga. The title sponsors for the event were Etihad Airways, represented at the tourn ament by General Manager for the Philippines, Mr. Juan Torres. Team entries were up on the inaugural event from thirteen to sixteen. Teams came from all around the region, with some players travelling around the globe to be there . The competitors are listed below:

Once again, the event was put together by Nomads Cricket and the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) in with Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and Holiday Inn Clark. The cricket is played on the former American milita ry Parade Ground at Clark, where two ovals were prepared for the weekend. The organizers are again indeb ted to CDC for making these outstanding facilities available to us.

The event got underway on the Wednesday night with the official draw being held at Howzat Sports Bar in Makati. A number of the earl y arrivals were able to meet with our special guests for the week end, Jack Richards (former & Surrey wicketkeeper) and Charlie Burke (Regional Development Officer, International Crick et Council).

Sund ay, of course, was finals day and the competition for the mag nificent trophies was strong. There were some crack ing games and the eventual winners were as follows:
