CORTLAND Coaching Staff Tom Cranfield Interim Head Coach

Tom Cranfield returns as Cortland’s men’s ice hockey head coach for the 2013-14 season after previously coaching the program for six seasons from 2001-07. He also is Cortland’s as- sociate director of athletics - a role he’s held since 2010 - and was an assistant athletic director from 2006-10.

Cranfield led the Red Dragons to four consecutive State University of Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play- off berths from 2002-05. His 2001-02 squad finished 14-11-4 and advanced to the SUNYAC semifinals. Three of his players moved onto professional hockey. Joe Cardarelli joined the Cortland men’s ice hockey coach- A standout defenseman at Cortland from 1989-93, Cran- ing staff in August, 2013, taking over the lead role of recruiting and coaching the defense. Dan Jones enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Cortland men’s ice hockey program in 2013-14.

Jones played four seasons of hockey at SUNY Oswego as a , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in May, 2013. During his career, the Lakers won two SUNYAC titles and made four Div. At Cortland, athletics are viewed as having an important role in the educational mission of the College. During the fall, winter and spring seasons, Cortland participates in 25 intercollegiate sports — 14 women’s and 11 men’s — in an attempt to provide a broad program which meets the needs, interests and abilities of its students.

The Cortland athletic program placed 11th nationally out of approximately 440 colleges and universities in the 2012-13 all-sport Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Division III standings. Cortland is the only New York school and one of only four nationwide to finish in the top 20 each of the last 18 years. Since 1989, the Red Dragons have captured 15 NCAA Division III team titles.
