Optional travel protection available Day One: Thursday, Oct. 21st We are leaving Canton early this morning for our drive to Alexandria, VA. Sit back, relax and enjoy the fall foliage as we head southeast through the Allegheny Mountains. Once arriving in Alexandria, we’ll check into our hotel before we head out for dinner. Tonight, we will dine at the Mt. Vernon Inn Restaurant where we will savor the flavors of early America at this restaurant located just footsteps from George Washington’s historic estate. This is the place for those looking to step back into the more tranquil atmosphere of the 18th century as on any given night pork, lamb, chicken and beef are among the offerings. A er dinner we will return to our hotel for a good night’s rest. (Dinner) Day Two: Friday, Oct. 22nd Our day starts with a tour of the Washington Na onal Cathedral. The Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in the City and Diocese of Washington, commonly known as Washington Na onal Cathedral, is an American cathedral of the Episcopal Church. Built over 83 years of construction, Washington National Cathedral is an architectural masterpiece designed to point eyes and hearts toward things above. Note: ALL visitors 18 and older need to have a valid U.S. state or federal government-issued identification for entry. After the tour perhaps take some quiet time to reflect or browse their store and gift shop before we enjoy a light lunch on our own. The Open City Café at the National Cathedral is across the parking lot. In the a ernoon, we will tour The Basilica of the Na onal Shrine of the Immaculate Concep on. The Na onal Shrine, also known as Mary’s Shrine, receives nearly one million visitors annually and has been visited by Pope Francis, Pope Benedict XVI, Saint Pope John Paul II, and Saint Mother Teresa of Calcu a, among others. The tour includes visits to chapels on both levels and informa on about the background of the Shrine, the architecture, and the sacred artwork. Next, a tour guide will take us to visit many of the Washington DC monuments which give the city its nickname, America’s Rome. The Washington DC monuments share thousands of stories about the people and events that created the na on into what it is today. At a me when poli cal par sanship is at its highest, the Washington DC monuments provide a healthy reminder of what created and unified the country in the first place. Dinner this evening will be with members of the DC area Alumni, current faculty and students. (Subject to CDC and center guidelines, backup dinner planned) (Breakfast & Dinner) Day Three: Saturday, Oct. 23rd First stop Museum of the Bible which opened in November of 2017. The museum documents the narra ve, history, and impact of the Bible. For centuries, people have turned to the Bible for comfort, instruc on, inspira on, and hope. But what about adventure, intrigue, entertainment, and FUN? Museum of the Bible invites you to experience the Bible in a whole new way. Using cu ng-edge technology, the Bible comes to life before your eyes. Inside, you can walk on dry land through the Red Sea, wander the streets of a first-century village, see rare ar facts from the Va can and Israel, and sample biblically inspired foods from their award-winning chef. Complete with a world stage theater, a Fly Board ride experience, and personalized digital guides, Museum of the Bible can be tailored to any age. Enjoy lunch on your own here in the Manna Restaurant or the Milk and Honey Café. Next, we head over to Virginia, to visit the Arlington National Cemetery, located just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. It is America’s sacred res ng place for those who died in service to their country. A tram tour of America’s most hallowed ground allows us to gauge the vast numbers of military personnel who have sacrificed so much for the freedoms that we all enjoy today. There will be more me to visit monuments and memorial with our tour guide today. This will happen either before or a er the cemetery visit. Tonight’s dinner will be at Tony and Joe’s Seafood Place. Floor-to-ceiling windows & outdoor sea ng provide spectacular scenic views of the Potomac River, Kennedy Center and Key Bridge while dining on the freshest seafood in DC. Our evening will end with an Illuminated Tour of the memorials. This evening’s tour provides us with a unique perspec ve as we witness DC by night. See the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, Mar n Luther King Jr. Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial plus others in a totally different way. (Breakfast & Dinner) Day Four: Sunday, Oct. 24th A er a hearty, hot breakfast we are back on the road heading home to Ohio. (Breakfast)
