Ever since Alex Haley’s novel, Roots, hit the book shops in the mid-70s, there has been an increasing number of people interested in their heritage. Many people buy computers and get on the internet primarily to keep track of their family tree.

Finding our roots is a process that helps us to discover who we are by looking at where we came from. But it’s only the beginning. Even more telling is the question of where we have set our roots for daily life. What motivates our day-to-day existence?

Some might answer, "My home and family, everything revolves around them." Or someone else, "My country, first, last and always." Many would simply reply, "Health and happiness." Don’t we say, "If you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything?"

A funny thing happened to God on his way to earth. Nobody recognized him. They didn’t think of looking in a manger, a stable, much less on a cross. This years Lifeboat Day will start at 11.00am on Polruan Quay and Coal Wharf. There will be both historic and modern lifeboats alongside the pontoon in Polruan and the usual cake, BBQ and Treasure Hunt stalls along with a Produce stall where we will be selling jam, fruit, marma- lade, vegetables and plants. LANTEGLOS PARISH COUNCIL

IMPORTANT NOTICE

As local residents know, there is a ongoing problem caused by seagulls ripping open plastic rubbish bags, strewing around the unsanitary contents and making a general mess of our village.

The Parish Council requests that home owners and holiday visitors ensure that any rubbish for collection be put out

Early Monday morning and NOT BEFORE!

It is strongly recommended that householders put bin bags in a dustbin or sea- gull proof sack obtainable from the Winklepicker

Owners of holiday lets are asked to provide their tenants with dustbins
