  • 1ST SUNDAY of LENT, Year B, 17Th & 18Th February 2018
St Edward, Coquet Avenue, Whitley Bay, NE26 1EE Immaculate Heart of Mary, Church Close, Monkseaton, NE25 9PG Our Lady and St Edmund, Station Road, Backworth, NE27 0RU 1ST SUNDAY OF LENT, Year B, 17th & 18th February 2018 Day of Prayer for the Candidates for the Sacraments SUNDAY READINGS REFLECTION Noah was a good man, a man of integrity who walked with God. He gave thanks to God for saving him and his family from the flood. God in return promises never to inflict the same punishment on man again despite our recurring sinfulness. Each of the covenants that God makes emerges from man’s alienation, there is no pretence that we are not fallible, sinful human beings. Lent is a time when we can recognise this, when we can pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and start all over again. After his baptism by John, Jesus is driven by the Spirit into the wilderness, to confront his adversary. He was there for forty days, overcame temptation and then returned to carry out his mission. We can use the forty days of Lent in a similar way, to understand ourselves better, accept the blessings of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and look forward to Easter. Deacon Terry LENT & HOLY WEEK 2018 - JOURNEYING TOGETHER A Lent Reflection Group will be available on Friday 23rd February, 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd March at 10.45am in the Upper Meeting Room at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Poems and other readings will give a focus to shared reflection and prayer. Christians from the other local churches will be invited to join.
