Giarre - Secondary school “Michele Amari” together with: FGI (Italian Gymnastics Federation) FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation) FIJLKAM ( Italian Federation of Judo, Karate and Martial Arts) the town of Giarre the town of Linguaglossa the town of Riposto with the support of: Schools associated with UNESCO MIUR (Ministry of Education, Universities and Research () MIBACT (Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (Italy) taking inspiration from the Classical World

organizes the 1st edition of the Historical Olympic Games ( 25th-27th May 2018) to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the foundation of our school.

Italian and foreign secondary schools’ students (aged from 16 to 19) are invited to join the mentioned competitions that want to foster the development of physical and social skills of the students as individuals and as human beings.

1. General aims: Re-discovering the values of Ancient Greece and experiencing them through the participation in this sport competition. Promoting sport as a means for a balanced and harmonic growth of the youth, favoring socialization and co-operation based on loyalty and respect for rules.

2. Participants : a. The competition is addressed to Italian and foreign students ( aged from 16 to 19) who are regularly attending the current school year; b. Each school can participate with at least six students; c. The name of the delegation has to correspond to the official definition of the school; d. Each school will choose his own participants. If they were less than six, the organizing school would decide whether they can or cannot take part in the games; e. Each delegation will bring its own school, town or region flag.

3. Types of races - 80 metres male running - 80 metres female running - 200 metres male running - Relay race 4x 50 ( 4 participants x school: two boys and two girls) - Male shot put ( 5kg) ( one participant x each school)

4. Time and place of the games The games will take place in Giarre ( ) from 26th to 27th May 2018. Further details will be added and they will be available on the official website of the school www.iisamari.gov.it

5. Judges The games will be judged by the official judges of FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation)

6. Prizes and awards - Prices will be given to the students classified in first, second and third position. - Prices will be given to the schools classified in first, second and third position - All the participants will be given a certificate of attendance.

7. General results - First position: 10 scores - Second position: 6 scores - Third position: 4 scores - Fourth position: 2 scores - Fifth position: 1 score

8. Awarding of prizes The awarding of prizes will take place on May 27th .

9. Obligations a. Throughout the event the teachers will be responsible for their students without leaving them unattended; b. Every student must be provided with a medical certificate for sports activities and a proper insurance; c. Each school must be provided with official permissions for both students and teachers for the shooting of videos . These documents must be attached to the enrolment form. The video material will be used for didactic aims and for information only. 10. Accommodations

a. Each participant is requested to pay the transfer to and from Giarre b. The organizing school will be in charge of all the transfers from the place where the participants will be staying to the athletics fields. c. Agreements with the local hotels/residences have been made by the organizing school to facilitate the stay ( 25th -27th May) of the different teams . The list of the hotels will be available on the school website www.iisamari.gov.it . d. Each school is requested to book the chosen hotel and to communicate it to the organizing school in order to arrange the transfer properly e. During the stay the teams will have the chance to visit the landmarks of our area (Taormina, Etna), as you can see in the attached program. The excursions have to be booked at the moment of the enrolment. Further information about costs and times will be given after the enrolment on the school website.

11. Enrolment form and deadline The deadline for the presentation is 16th April 2018 within 12 o’clock . The enrolment form is available on the school website and must be filled thoroughly and must contain the name of the teacher responsible for his/her school. The form must be sent to the mail address : olimpiadi [email protected].

Requested attachments: - Permission for video shooting - Declaration about the possession of the required Physical Fitness Certificate for sport activities and the connected insurances which will be signed by the headmaster . No more than 50 Secondary schools delegations will be admitted to join the competition. If more than 50 schools ask to join, they will be selected depending on the order of the form arrival.
