We started our training by going to the 2016 Invitational in Iowa to see how the test was run. After watching this test, I knew pass- ing the Invitational was not going to be easy. That is when I de- cided to devote my entire summer to training. I was fortunate enough to spend the summer with some really great trainers, and My ByVC Joe Lake Hunts it eventually paid off. Final score 196, with the only flaw at the double mark. A flaw I attribute to han- dler error. And a new VC is born! To run an event such as the Invitational requires a lot of volunteers. My husband and I, along with Lily, had signed up to work at the Honor site and were scheduled for Saturday. When the cry for help came again, we signed up for Sunday as well and were placed as the Blind test dog and again at the Honor site. Helping at an event like this is great fun and a wonderful learning process. It’s a front row seat to watch the dogs work. VC Lily loves to work and had great fun retrieving duck after duck. My appreciation of NAVHDA judges grew to a new level. From the first time I tested in NAVHDA, I was told the judg- es really wanted me to pass. This became very evident at the Blind on Saturday.
