Keep clear zones outside schools are to be the first target of Cheshire West and Chester Council’s new CCTV enforcement cars. The council launched the first vehicle over the summer to address road traffic congestion, improve road safety and tackle inconsiderate motorists who park illegally. Cllr Lynn Riley, Community and Cllr Lynn Riley and the new CCTV enforcement car outside Environment Executive Member Meadow Primary School, Great Sutton with the vice chair said: “All local authorities have a of the school governors, Ian Finlay and pupil Junior Road duty to tackle dangerous parking Safety Officer Matthew. and CCTV camera enforcement has been very successful in areas throughout the UK in addressing this issue, particularly outside schools.” The scheme, launched in Ellesmere Port, will work with a number of local schools who have experienced problems with inconsiderate and often unsafe parking. The enforcement vehicles use environmentally friendly ‘eco-flex’ technology to ensure low emissions. The Council is also supporting local industry as all enforcement vehicles used will be Vauxhalls. Cllr Riley added: “We intend to be very open about where enforcement cars will be and when, this initiative is not about catching drivers out but about making the roads safer for everyone. “A key part of the launch of this scheme, which will focus initially on dangerous parking outside schools, will be about working with pupils, teachers and parents to develop safer walking to school initiatives. “This year’s school census showed that 43% of children walk to school and in Cheshire West and Chester walking is the most popular way to get to school. In the past few years the numbers of children walking to school has increased. Sutton and Manor Ward Councillor Kimberley Anderson where the launch took place said: “I’m so pleased to see how Cheshire West and Chester Council is now able to take direct action to improve the lives of residents by making a safer environment outside our schools.”

Q. I have purchased a cream that claims to ‘act like botox’, but after six weeks of use I have seen very little difference in my wrinkles. Are there really creams that can achieve the same effect as botox? A. The short answer is: No! Due to the effectiveness of Botox for softening lines and wrinkles, many cosmetic manufacturers have jumped onto the ‘wrinkle softening bandwagon’ and have made all types of promises that are just not justified. A recent study* published in Dermatologic Surgery pitted Botox, against a placebo saline injection, and three different cosmetic products, that claimed superiority to ‘act like botox’. There were 77 women divided into groups of five to participate in the study. An outside investigator measured wrinkle improvements in the skin using the Facial Wrinkle Scar scale, at weeks 4, 8 and 12 after the treatments. The independent examiner noted the most improvement with the patients treated with Botox. There was a minimal difference between the placebo injection of saline Angela Bartlett is a beauty and and the other three wrinkle creams.
