1. Demise of Senator Albert Osuma Legogie (Deputy Senate President 1992 -1993) Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, CON (Senate Leader)

THE SENATE, NOTES with heavy heart, the death of former Senator Albert Osuma Legogie, the Deputy Senate President in the aborted Third Republic and a pioneer member of the Board of Trustee (BOT) of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), who died on Monday, 19th June, 2013at the age of 66;

NOTES also that Senator Albert Osuma Legogie was born on the 22nd of January, 1947 in Ugbekpe-Ekperi, Esako Central Local Government Area of Edo State;

OBSERVES that Late Senator Albert Legogie was a devout Christian who was unwavering in his commitment of his faith, and was an outstanding Journalist and Lawyer;

OBSERVES further that Senator Albert Osuma Legogie served the country in various capacities, thus: i. Member, Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, 1988- 1989 ii. Elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1992; iii. Deputy President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1992- 1993 iv. Member, Joint National Committee of Traditional Rulers and Leaders of Thought (An Advisory Committee to the then Federal Military Government), 1996-1998; v. Member, Steering Committee, People's Democratic Party (PDP) 1997; vi. Member, Board of Trustee, People's Democratic Party (POP), 1998- 2000; vi. Member, Board of Trustees, Centre for Population and Environment Development, Benin City, 1996; vii. Member, Governing Council, University of Uyo, Uyo, 2009- 2013;

NOTES also that he was conferred with various honours as follows; Testimonial of Excellence, University of Ife, Ile-Ife, 1976; Merit Award - Etsako Professional Women Association, Benin Branch, 1995; Merit Award - Etsako Club 81, Lagos, in appreciation of the Leadership Quality exhibited as Deputy President of the Senate and Service to Etsako Land in Nigeria, 1996; NYSC Drug Abuse and Addiction Free Team: Award for Service to Humanity, Benin City, 1999; Merit Award - Ekperi Development Association for contribution, 2008; Ekperi Catholic Community: Grand Patron for Contribution to the development of the Church in Ekperi, 2009; Issele-Uku Progressive Association, in appreciation of his valuable supports to the Association 2009; CONVINCED that the Late Senator Albert Osuma Legogie was a Nationalist, an Icon whose life was a remarkable life of service, achievement and fulfillment. He was a detribalized Nigerian who always considered the interest of all others all his life;

He was a widower who is survived by six children and one grandson.

A WARE that Senator Albert Legogie was a generous and loving family man, an advocate of peace and social justice, whose death is a grave loss, not only to Etsako Central in Edo State in particular, but to the nation as a whole; Accordingly resolves to: i. OBSERVES one minute silence in honour of Late Senator Albert Legogie; ii. CONDOLE with the family, government and people of Edo State;

iii. HOLD a valedictory session in his honour.
