RoseMary Moore Director of Religious Education

The Dear Church Family,

I would like to take this time to tell you a little of my story, who I am and how I came to St. Joseph. My name is RoseMary, I am a Latina who grew up in the Bay Area (San

Leandro). My parents, Manuel Lopez Duran and Socorro Lilia Duran, are Mexican

immigrants. They met at a dance in San Francisco and were married in October of 1952.

They settled in Oakland for a while and then bought a home in San Leandro in 1956 where

my mother still lives today.

I was born in February of 1954 and I am the oldest of 3 children. I attended

“Come follow

grammar school at Saint Felicitas Church in San Leandro, and High School at Moreau

Catholic School in Hayward. My family members are parishioners of St. Felicitas Church,

me and I will where my brothers and I received our sacraments. My husband Jim and I officially met in April of 1974 and were married in January of 1975. My family was happy to overlook the make you fact that he was Irish-American as long as he was Catholic. We settled in San Leandro and have 3 children: Sean Alejandro, Daniela Marie, and Bryan Jaime. We are blessed to have 8 fishers of men” beautiful grandchildren.

Matthew 4:19 During the years when my children were young, I stayed very active in our parish. I helped start 2 Latino ministries alongside my mother who was a pioneer in Latino ministries. I also taught catechism, working with children and youth, and women’s ministry. In addition, my husband and I gave baptism and marriage talks in a bi-lingual setting. When my children were in High School I started back to school. I went back to Chabot College and received my AA degree, then did my BA at Mills College. I have worked in education with school districts both in Colorado and for over 25 years.

I always felt called to do ministry; and, after much discerning and prayer, I decided I wanted to go back to school and work on a Master of Divinity. I enrolled at the Jesuit School of Theology, and in 2008, I received my degree. I happily accepted a as Dean of Students at the Jesuit School and was very happy there. After being there for 3 years, I felt a big tug deep in my heart that told me it was time to move on and work doing direct ministry for God’s people. That brought me here to the doors of St. Joseph’s Parish. I am so excited to be here and I can’t wait to get started meeting all of you. I expect that over the next several years we will have a wonderful journey as we lead each other hand in hand towards learning more about God, the Church and his People.

Your Sister in Christ,

RoseMary Moore
