NWFB and Introduce New e-Payment System Accepting Payment by Multiple Transit QR Codes in the First Phase

(31 December 2020, Hong Kong) Passengers can soon enjoy new travelling experience with more payment options on bus as New World First Bus (“NWFB”) and Citybus are gradually accepting payment by QR code on the entire fleet of more than 300 bus routes.

The first phase of new electronic payment (“e-payment”) service will cover bus routes listed below for trial from the first departure on Saturday, 9 January 2021. Passengers can pay their fares by scanning the transit QR code in their mobile payment tool with the new e-payment system on buses. NWFB and Citybus will submit the trial result to the government and this service will be extended to all bus routes shortly, upon approval.

 Adult fares are pre-set on the new e-payment system and there is a fare concession button for children and the elderly.  Payment process is simple and quick. The system will display “Approved” on the screen with a voice message when transaction is complete.  Passengers using the new e-payment method with the same user account can continue to enjoy the Bus-bus Interchange Fare Concession (for travelling on the above 9 NWFB and Citybus routes for both the first and second journey only), two-way section fares and Citybus Cityflyer Same Day Return Fare Discount currently applied to Citybus Route A29/A29P.  $2 fare concession for passengers aged 60 to 64 travelling on Citybus routes (Franchise for and Cross Harbour bus network) on Sundays and public holidays are not applicable to e-payments other than Octopus. Passengers cannot enjoy this fare concession with the new e-payment service.  Government Public Transport Fare Concession Scheme for the Elderly and Eligible Persons with Disabilities and Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme are currently not yet applicable to e-payments other than Octopus.
