Property Description

This former convent stands on an enclosed and planted plot of 4500 sqm (+/- 1 acre) halfway between Strasbourg and Colmar in the Alasce area of the Grand Est region.

Built in 1893 at the instigation of Father Kelhetter, canon of Strasbourg, the chapel first hosted the Sisters of the Cross and then the Brothers of Matzenheim until the start of the Second World War. Fully restored in 2011, the building has been redesigned by a new interior distribution to organize a bed and breakfast activity.

This unque property would be ideal for old stones lovers wishing (or not) to develop accommodation activity in a region which benefits from exceptional natural resources which can be enjoyed on foot, by bike or canoe in the many tributaries of the Rhine.

THE ACCOMMODATION

With its own entrance, the former chaplain's accommodation has been redesigned into a reception lounge with a kitchen and 5 bedrooms upstairs, one of which is nestled under the roof. Ideally exposed, the bedrooms offer a privileged view over the surrounding countryside. A pergola, a heated swimming pool and a wellness area with a jacuzzi and a sauna complete these services provided to clients. 140sqm of attic space offers possibilities for additional rooms.

A laundry constitutes a transition space with the private areas and extends to the living room in the nave, lulled in light thanks to generous semicircular openings and a triple exposure. The ornamental paintings on the ceiling - kept in their original state- are part of the decoration.

A spiral staircase leads to the former choir’s tribune which has been transformed in a cinema corner. Both a viewing place and a circulation gallery, a metal walkway with a glass floor leads to two bedrooms sharing a bathroom.

OUTSIDE

Away from prying eyes, a terrace in sandstone pavers extends over a landscaped pond fed by a spring. Concrete foundations of a former classroom, unfinished by the Brothers, accommodates garages and various cells for cellar use.

The inner roadway of the property is extended by an orchard to the old hay barn which is intended to accommodate 2 or 3 horse boxes. A well adjoins the construction and would constitute a water supply.
