Room Personal Room Personal Room n°3 Caroline Corbetta Caroline Corbetta art curator Personal Room Personal Room PERSONAL ROOM In un momento storico in cui la velocità sembra essere tutto, la lentezza è sempre più apprezzata. Ma ad una condizione: che sia densa di significato, memorabile (letteralmente: degna di memoria), che non sia una perdita di tempo bensì l’occasione per guadagnare un’esperienza. Cesar, con il progetto Personal Room, si fa interprete di questa tensione, proponendo un nuovo progetto fatto di incontri, ideato da Garcia Cumini e coordinato da Paolo Ferrarini. Superando il concetto di “evento”, Personal Room propone dei dialoghi a tavola, degli incontri in cucina, delle pause di racconto e riflessione, in cui gli ospiti discutono attorno a temi per loro rilevanti. Scrittori, autori, musicisti, designer, architetti, grafici sono stati invitati a parlare nella casa di Cesar, senza necessariamente PERSONAL ROOM discutere di cibo e ricette. By means of the Personal Room project, Cesar interprets this tension by offering a new project consisting of encounters, created by Garcia Cumini and coordinated by Paolo Ferrarini. Personal Room strives to be more than just an event by suggesting conversations around the table, meetings in the kitchen, moments to relate and reflect during which guests can talk about matters that are particularly important to them. Writers, authors, musicians, designers, architects and graphic designers have been invited to talk in Cesar’s home, not necessarily on the subject of food or recipes. Their words have lead to the discovery of new things, aided the understanding of the present and offered the right recipes to sense the direction we and the design world are moving in. 02 03 Personal Room Personal Room CAROLINE CORBETTA Curatore d’arte contemporanea, autrice e giornalista culturale. CAROLINE CORBETTA Contemporary art curator, author and cultural journalist. Her cross-functional work is focused on combining various disciplines and, in particular, on blending art with fashion and design and on making it available to the greatest possible number of people while scouting emerging talents. She organised the first international exhibitions of now-famous artists such as Nathalie Djurberg and Ragnar Kjartansson. Although she works with local art stars Maurizio Catellan and Francesco Vezzoli she still scouts young talents.     A Mirror Woman: The Sun & the Moon, 2008, 4 channel video projection, sound, 12:33 loop Kimsooja: Black Holes, Meditative Vanishings and Nature as a Mirror of the Universe Ingrid Commandeur, 2011 One of the best-known works by the Korean artist, Kimsooja (b. Taegu, 1957, lives and works in New York, Seoul and Paris) is the video and performance Cities on the Move: 2727 kilometres Bottari Truck (1997), created for the much-discussed exhibition, Cities on the Move. [1] It is a quiet version of a road movie. We see a blue truck, loaded with colourful bundles of textiles, called bottari in Korean, piled up on one another like a mountain. Kimsooja is sitting at the top of the pile and makes the journey together with the truck, 2727 kilometres along all the places she had lived as a child. The frame of the image is fixed: from the back, we see Kimsooja as an anonymous female figure in the lotus position, while cities and Korean mountain landscapes move past. For Cities on the Move(1997), curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Hou Hanru, artists, architects and designers investigated or reflected on urban transformations in Asia as a result of globalization and modernization. Because of the associations that the work evokes with the concepts of migration and nomadic lifestyles, Kimsooja's 2727 kilometres Bottari Truck became the ultimate metaphor for this theme. Her participation in the exhibition marked her definitive breakthrough into the international exhibition circuit. [2] Commenting on the great interest being shown in her work, she has said, 'Today, it seems that we are witnessing a "cultural war" with many issues arising in a global context, bringing together different races and beliefs, with an increasing discrepancy between rich and poor, economically powerful and less powerful countries.

Within minutes of the kick-off of the fair’s opening day, Cattelan was receiving texts from friends who were recreating the artwork at home. Almost instantly, it became a viral sensation. The unassuming banana unleashed total chaos on Miami. Not one but two collectors purchased editions of the work in the fair’s opening hours on Wednesday. The dealer then raised the price on the third edition to $150,000, and sold it to a collector who will donate it to a museum, according to the Art Newspaper (https://www.theartnewspaper.com/news/usd120-000-banana-edition-will-be-donated-to-a-museum). Two artist proofs were not sold, despite widespread demand. The banana installation became such a spectacle in the Miami Beach Convention Center that the gallery had to put up a velvet rope in front of the piece to control the crowds.

  • During the 1990S a Number of Artists Claimed the Exhibition As Their Medium
    (NEW YORK, NY - October 23, 2008) During the 1990s a number of artists claimed the exhibition as their medium. Working independently or in various collaborative constellations, they eschewed the individual object in favor of the exhibition environment as a dynamic arena, ever expanding its physical and temporal parameters. For these artists, an exhibition can comprise a film, a novel, a shared meal, a social space, a performance, or a journey. Using the museum as a springboard for work that reaches beyond the visual arts, their practices often commingle with other disciplines such as literature, architecture, design, and theater, engaging directly with the vicissitudes of everyday life to offer subtle moments of transformation. The exhibition brings together ten artists who exemplify this creative impulse: Angela Bulloch, Maurizio Cattelan, Liam Gillick, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Douglas Gordon, Carsten Höller, Pierre Huyghe, Jorge Pardo, Philippe Parreno, and Rirkrit Tiravanija. While these artists all employ markedly different aesthetic strategies and do not constitute a formally affiliated group, their varying practices are conceptually unified by a mutual rethinking of the early modernist impulse to conflate art and life, and, thereby, to resist representation. In the process, the artists attempt to engender a kind of activated spectatorship, often by creating works that absorb and extend the conventions of museum practice. What is most striking about this loose affiliation of artists, all of whom emerged during the early 1990s and now boast strong, independent careers, is that they periodically and randomly join forces to create a variety of projects ranging from co-directing films, to purchasing the copyright for a Japanese Manga character and franchising her image, to initiating a land reclamation project in rural Thailand.
