HEAD COACH MIKE LONDON

Howard University President, Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick announced Mike London as the new head coach of the Howard University football team on Jan. 8, 2017.

“After an extensive national search, we are especially excited to welcome Mike London to Howard University,” said Dr. Frederick. “He joins our football program at an incredible time, and we look forward to seeing him build on the existent foundation that makes Howard University a great institution. The board of trustees and I believe he brings outstanding leadership and experience and is sure to be a tremendous resource to the entire Howard University community.”

“We welcome Mike London and his family to Howard University,” said Howard Athletics Director Kery Davis. “I believe Mike will be a strong leader and mentor for our student-athletes. He is a widely-respected coach with a resume full of achievements at the highest levels of college football and combines a drive to win with great integrity. We look forward to the future of Howard University football under his direction.”

“I would like to thank President Frederick and Kery Davis for their confidence and belief in me,” London said. “I am humbled that we have a shared commitment to take this university and this football program to greater heights. Some of the best football talent in the country is right here in the Washington metropolitan area, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to work with the young men in the Howard football program and build on the strong heritage already in place.”

Since his tenure at Howard, Coach London has coached six Bison to All-MEAC honors, including 2017 MEAC Rookie of the Year quarterback Caylin Newton.

London’s first season at HU began with the program’s first FBS win as the Bison beat UNLV, which according to ESPN, deemed the biggest upset in college football history. Furthermore, Howard finished second in the conference with a 6-2 mark while posting its first winning season since 2012. Furthermore, London was named a finalist for the 31st STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award after winning the 2017 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Regional Coach of the Year award.

London comes to Howard University after serving as an associate head coach/defensive line coach for the University of . Before coaching the Terrapins, he was the head coach at the University of Virginia and the University of Richmond, respectfully for eight seasons. A highly-regarded recruiter, London helped bring in four top-35 classes during his tenure in Charlottesville and brought in two Virginia-bred five-star recruits in 2014 (247Sports). London led Virginia to an 8-5 season in 2011 and was named ACC Coach of the Year.

As the head coach at Richmond (2008-09), London captured 24 wins and led the Spiders to the FCS Championship in his first season. He helped 28 Spiders achieve all-conference honors in just two seasons.

London played defensive back at Richmond (1979-1982) before playing one season for the . BRENNAN MARION Offensive Coordinator | Coach

In 2017, Brennan Marion joined Coach Mike London and the Howard University football staff where he turned the offense from mediocre to one of the nation’s top units after one season. He witnessed five Bison named to the All-MEAC Team while seeing quarterback Caylin Newton win the 2017 MEAC Rookie of the Year, along with the 2017 ECAC Rookie of the Year. Newton was also selected to the All-American Freshmen First Team.

DARRYL BULLOCK Run Game Coordinator | Offensive Line Coach

In 2017, Darryl Bullock joined the Howard University football staff as its running game coordinator/offensive line coach. After his first season, he coached one of the top rushing attacks in the nation, led by All-MEAC First Team honoree Gerald Wright.

MIKE LONDON, JR. Wide Receivers Coach

In 2017, Mike London, Jr. joined the Howard University football staff as its wide receivers coach. After his first season, he saw wide receivers Jequez Ezzard and Kyle Anthony receive numerous postseason awards, including All-MEAC selections.

DAVID CLOWNEY Inside Receivers Coach | Pass Game Coordinator

In 2017, David Clowney joined the Howard University football staff as its inside receivers coach/ pass game coordinator after a seven-year career in the NFL. In his first season, Clowney saw wide receivers Jequez Ezzard and Kyle Anthony receive All-MEAC honors.

E.J. BARTHEL Running Back Coach | Player Development Coach

In July 2018, Head Coach Mike London and the Howard University football team welcomed former Rutgers and UMass standout EJ Barthel as their new running back and player development coach. Prior to his arrival to “The Mecca”, Barthel coached at Albany in the same role where he was responsible for recruiting top running backs throughout the nation.

VINCE BROWN Assistant Head Coach | Defensive Coordinator | Linebackers Coach

In 2017, Brown re-joined Coach Mike London as the team’s defensive coordinator where he has coached one defensive student-athlete to All-MEAC honors since his time at Howard. In his first season, Brown helped the Bison to a 7-4 overall mark and 6-2 record in league play while seeing the young Bison improve weekly. In conference play, Howard finished second in the MEAC in 4th down conversion defense. HU also placed third in the conference in red zone defense.

CATO JUNE Recruiting Coordinator | Safeties Coach | Video Coordinator

In 2016, former Indianapolis Colts linebacker and Super Bowl champion Cato June joined the Howard University football staff as its running back coach where he coached All-MEAC First Team honoree Anthony Philyaw. The following year, June moved to safeties coach while taking over as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

KEENAN CARTER Defensive Line Coach

In 2017, Keenan Carter joined the Howard University football staff as its defensive line coach. Prior to coming to Howard, Carter spent two seasons at Bridgewater College (BC) as the defensive line coach (2015-16). In 2015, the BC defensive line featured two All-State selections in Logan Whitaker (also a first team All-ODAC choice) and Nick Cawthon (second team All-ODAC). Two more Eagle linemen (JP Utz and Sammie Harper) were named to the All-Conference Team in 2016.

RAS-I DOWLING Cornerbacks Coach

On July 5, 2018, Head Coach Mike London and the Howard University football team promoted former NFL defensive back Ras-I Dowling as its new cornerback coach after spending last year as a defensive quality control coach.
