BIG IDEA:

The life of the filled person is marked by the fruit of the Spirit.

What is the fruit of the Holy Spirit?

To serve a person for their good and intrinsic value, not for what the person brings you.

#2 JOY

Gladness based on the unchanging greatness and goodness of God and his work in the world.

A sense of contentment and wholeness as a result of being in a right relationship with God, with oneself, and with others.

#4 (Longsuffering)

An ability to face trouble without blowing up or lashing out.

#5

The ability to serve others practically in a way which makes you vulnerable.

#6 GOODNESS

The deliberate preference of right to wrong, the firm and persistent resistance of all moral evil, and the choosing and following of all moral good.

1 #7 FAITHFULNESS

Remaining steadfast in one’s commitment to another person or to one's promises to another person even in the face of adversity.

#8 GENTLENESS

Humility that protects a person from an overinflated or underinflated ego that leads to self absorption and harsh treatment of others.

#9 SELF-CONTROL

The ability to control one’s emotions and desires in order to do God’s will and not your own.

Why can only the Holy Spirit produce the fruit of the Spirit?

1. When sin entered the world it so affected God’s good creation that it made the natural unnatural and the unnatural natural.

2. All people are made in the image of God, and therefore each person has the capacity to exhibit aspects of the fruit of the Spirit. However, the person without the Holy Spirit is incapable of manifesting the fruit of the Spirit to the extent that it becomes the sum total of their character.

3. If a person exhibits some aspect of the fruit of the Spirit apart from the Holy Spirit’s work because of their genetic wiring or because they still have some capacity to reflect God, they will most certainly be deficient in other aspects of the fruit of the Spirit.

4. Counterfeit fruit is the fruit of the flesh masquerading as the fruit of the Spirit.

How does the Holy Spirit produce the fruit of the Spirit?

1. The Holy Spirit makes ’s character astoundingly beautiful, personal, and desirable to us.

2. The Holy Spirit enables us to experience the fruit of the Spirit in Jesus in our present circumstances.

3. The Holy Spirit causes the beauty of Jesus that He has made so personal and desirable to our hearts to flow out into our actions.

1. Your only is to behold Jesus in your learning, life experiences, and your responsive obedience and the Holy Spirit will transform you. 2 Corinthians 3:18

6. In what difficult circumstances have you experienced Jesus loving you? How has he embodied the fruit of the Spirit to minister to you?
