A word from IDCN Partner President

"As I write this foreword, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge our existence and test our patience. We all agree that 2020 has been THE YEAR OF THE UNEXPECTED!! On a positive note, the pandemic couldn't deter our spirits and I am glad to see how well each one of us in IDCN Copenhagen have adapted to this "new normal." Even in such testing times, while following the mantra of "stay home, stay safe", we at IDCN have successfully managed to keep the boat moving.

Personally, taking up the role of the Partner- President has been both learning and rewarding for me. My belief in the power of the 3C's- Communication, Collaboration and Cooperation has been further strengthened and I look forward to adding more value to IDCN Copenhagen."

There are five powerful teams behind IDCN Copenhagen, each team consisting of passionate professionals with different nationalities and backgrounds. During weekly team meetings, we discuss projects and set new targets together. At the monthly Partner Commitee Meeting, we get to strengthen our cooperation with other teams while all the volunteering team members come together to discuss projects. In additional Team Leads meetings, our mentors Mary and Mark assist the Team Leaders in coordinating events, delegating tasks and clarifying any doubt that old or new team members may have. All of the teams also have regular meetings with their individual corporate mentors for career advice and guidance.

We have prepared a guide of hyggelig entertainment for you to do during holidays. Hope you will enjoy some of them !

We suggest you start with Gardens. Get in the spirit at Copenhagen Christmas * markets and celebrate Christmas in Tivoli Gardens. Once again the historic garden will be filled with glittering Christmas lights, the cutest wooden houses decorated with pine branches, and snow-covered trees to create that perfect Nordic Christmas atmosphere. Of course, Santa Claus and his will also be there to welcome everyone to the amusement park fun rides and the cosy Christmas market. Go on a treasure hunt to find The Six Forgotten Giants in the western municipalities of Copenhagen: Rødovre, Hvidovre, Vallensbæk, Ishøj, Albertslund and Høje Taastrup. All six sculptures are made from scrap wood with the help of local volunteers, and is the first chapter of Thomas Dambo’s ongoing story: “The great story of the little people and the giant trolls”. The project wants to bring art out of the museum, show the beautiful and often overlooked nature spots, and at the same time give an exciting and different experience.

A visit to the Planetarium is educational * entertainment for the entire family. Immerse yourself in the starry sky, watch movies in the large Dome and explore the exhibitions. The Dome is the heart of the Planetarium and it is the largest dome in Northern Europe. The big screen offers you a unique experience, which will make you feel like you are part of the movie. www.idcn.info [email protected] 15 December 2020

Want to enjoy a peaceful walk in beautiful surroundings and fill your lungs with the fresh, Nordic air? Then Dyrehaven in North Sealand is just the right place for you. Dyrehaven, which literally means "the deer park", is a natural resort filled with lush forests, small lakes and wide, open landscapes. As the name might reveal, Dyrehaven is renowned for the more than 2000 free range deer that inhabit the park, and you'll surely come across a herd of grazing deer on your way through.

Take a 10 minutes drive north of Copenhagen * you find the oldest amusement park in the world. Located in the woods of Dyrehaven, Bakken is a unique amusement park, which offers a historic and nostalgic venue combined with modern and fun amusements and thrill rides. You find a large variety of games, rides, restaurants, fast food and ice cream stalls, and every day there is plenty of entertainment for children and adults alike.

Spend an afternoon in Reffen - an * organic street food market where you'll find more than 50 start-ups in the form of food stalls from all over, bars and creative workshops. It consists of an 6000m2 area, with access to another 4000m2 area by the water. Reffen recently added Werkstatt, an old machine hall where you can enjoy drinks, delicious food and hygge all year round. www.idcn.info [email protected] 16 December 2020

Make sure to visit Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde - the home of five world famous Viking ships. It is beautifully located at Roskilde Fjord and consists of the Viking Ship Hall, the * Museum Island with boatyard, workshops and museum harbour. The museum is known for the unique interaction between the exhibition of the original Viking ships and the museum's live intermediation environment, where you can experience reconstructed Viking ships, excellent boatbuilding and specialised, maritime crafts. Here, tales of our maritime prehistory meet in a living and modern museum, where visitors are involved in history through dialogue and active participation.

Get your saltwater injection in a spa sailing around Copenhagen’s harbour. With CopenHot, you’ll get a spa experience that I bet you’ve never tried before. Cruise the Copenhagen canals in a spa boat or chill out in a fire heated barrel spa at the harbour. When you’ve soaked in the water for long enough, there’s a nice, warm sauna waiting for you inside. It’s panoramic glass wall gives you a great view of the harbour.

Another thing not to miss is CopenHill; the artificial ski slope and recreational hiking area opened in the fall 2019, built on top of the new waste management centre. Not only this new architectural beacon is visible from most of Copenhagen, a giant chimney way up on top is blowing huge smoke rings. You can bring out your ski and snowboard and head down the slopes at CopenHill. You can bring your own equipment, or you can rent some from the local shop Steep and Deep where the experts are ready to help you. If you are not much of a skier, you can also try the hiking trail that goes all the way along CopenHill’s roof, you will also find the world’s highest climbing wall of 85 meters, where certified climbers can test their skills.
