From Anne Frank to Toys to the Civil War, a diverse array of featured subjects attracted visitors from through- out the Chicago area as well as out-of-state and international visitors.

Anne Frank: A History for Today February 1 – April 3

The history of the Holocaust unfolded in this traveling exhibition from the Anne Frank Center USA, telling the heart-rending story of Anne Frank through Between the States: Photographs of the American Civil War family photographs juxtaposed with graphic images of historical events. September 27 – December 11 A touching, poignant traveling exhibition from the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, NY focused its sights on the Civil War through the lenses of early American photographers in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of “Mr. Lincoln’s War.” Toys in the ’Hood April 26 – September 18

This original exhibit, created by EHM staff in collaboration with author and toy inventor Tim Walsh, brought the art of play to life with a lively history of toys created in Chicago and the clever inventors who made the Letters from Home city an epicenter for toy invention and production. September 27 – December 11 The Civil War’s local impact came vividly to life through original artwork created by the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild and inspired by Elmhurst Historical Museum’s collection of Civil War era letters from area resident, Frederick Fischer, and his family. Dramatic letter readings by GreenMan Theatre Troupe enhanced the visual experience in the gallery.

Holiday Traditions A holiday-themed collection of handmade quilts from The Elmhurst December 14 – Piecemakers brought festive cheer to the Glos Mansion alongside the January 15, 2012 Museum’s rare collection of Dresden ornaments. Collections A total of 20 accessions resulted in the addition of 201 items to the permanent Collection in 2011. Highlights of the 2011 Collection donations included:

Churchville Schoolhouse Photos: The Museum received several photographs, slides and papers relating to Churchville Schoolhouse from the estate of Elaine Schultz. The donation includes five original photographs (circa 1895 – 1934), photographs Reference Services and slides of the extensive renovation of the schoolhouse 1968 – 1970, and The Museum staff assisted 661 researchers with reference Churchville Historical Society Papers. inquiries coming from 25 states (including Illinois) and seven Rabe’s Dairy Artifacts: Former Elmhurst resident Neal Rabe (grandson of countries (including US). The top three research subjects were: Fred Rabe, founder of Rabe’s Dairy) donated some family treasures to the Former Residents (80) Collection—including milk bottles, business souvenirs, advertisements and Businesses (59) photographs—from the early Elmhurst dairy (1910 – 1959).
