Provost Marshal’s Warrant Officer

t is truly an honour to have been appointed Provost Marshal’s Warrant IOfficer. Those who know me will endorse that I am passionate about the RAF and moreover the people that serve in the RAF Police. The RAF provides us all with many opportunities, rewards and a great deal of satisfaction but in order to get the most out of it we must be prepared to put something back in. We must safeguard our values, ethos and traditions that to date have made the RAF Police the success it is. We owe much to those who have served before and must ensure that as the current branch and trade ‘caretakers’ we leave it in good stead for those who will follow. The challenges that our personnel have risen to, especially over the past 12 months, enforces our relevance, diversity and value to the Service. As a trade our adaptability and resilience helps enforce future retention. Yet we must guard against complacency and resistance to future change. The RAF in 2020 will look a lot different to the one I joined in February 79 but certain factors remain constant; our standards, both professional and personal, our ethos and core values and importantly our integrity. Whilst remembering, and indeed honouring, our past we must actively seek to enforce and shape our future. The greatest asset to any organisation are its people. We therefore all have a duty of care to each other and must ensure that we remain operationally effective and relevant at must therefore ensure that the RAF Police home or away on deployed ops. family, as a whole, are taken care of; to do this we must endeavour to get to know our Having met with a number of personnel personnel. OD St Athan (formerly RAF St Athan), is a large Mairfield in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. It is divided between East and West camp with the active airfield operations running through its heart. Policing this establishment is often complex and requires a multifaceted approach by the RAF Police, in order to maintain a smooth cohesion between its 3 primary stakeholders; the Welsh Government who sponsor civilian commercial aviation companies providing them with workspace in the aircraft hangars; the Army’s Special Forces Support Group (SFSG) who occupy West camp and the RAF’s No 4 School of Technical Training (4SofTT) who occupy East camp. To fully understand how the RAF Police fit into this amalgam, it is necessary to appreciate how the station has developed, transformed and where its future is heading. Motocross Cpl Jason Brice from 1 Tactical Police Squadron RAF Police is a rising star in motocross as the AMCA Eastern Group MX1 (450cc class) Championship gets off to a promising start. The world of motocross is loud , fast and colourful with adrenline fueled action and excitement with handlebar banging starts, fast corners and big jumps. This is what attracted Jason to start his motocross career in his early teens. On joining the RAF he continued his focus through the RAF Enduro team before following his passion for motocross. After gaining his race licence and along with support of an RAF Sports lottery grant entered his first race at Polesworth, Warwickshire. The course was very undulating including some treacherous stoney sections which was not helped by the weather conditions which caused some spills and mechanical complications but despite this Jason came 7th overall. This is a great start and he hopes to improve on this as the season progresses.
