Lake Merritt • Merritt is a beautiful lake space east of and is not to be missed. Designated as the US’s first wildlife refuge in 1870, offers bird watching, boat rentals and classes, and an exercise path. The lake is host to many activities and festivals throughout the year. • lakemerritt.org/

Chabot Space & Science Center • Located at 10000 Skyline Blvd, east of downtown, the Chabot Space & Science Center is a great hands on museum for kids and adults. The museum features public use telescopes that are also used for research, a planetarium, space artifacts and interactive space activities. The museum is closed Mondays & Tuesdays, and open Wednesday – Sunday from 10-5pm. • chabotspace.org/

Children’s Fairyland • Children’s Fairyland is a storybook themed amusement park located at 699 Bellevue Ave and is open 12pm-7pm most days. You’ll find a ‘Jack & Jill Hill’ and Willie the whale, and many more fantastical attractions the whole family will love. They are committed to children and adults can only enter with a child. Oakland Museum of California • The Oakland Museum of California is located off of Lake Merritt at 1000 Oak St. Learn all about California at this intimate and well curated museum. The museum is closed Monday and Tuesday, and open from 11am to 5pm most days. If you’re going to visit Oakland, we recommend flying into the Oakland International Airport. To get to downtown Oakland, you can take the BART, which is the local transportation system, or Amtrak. It’s incredibly convenient.
