March, 2013 Dear Parents: Although it may be hard to believe, our 2012 – 2013 school year is rapidly drawing to a close for seniors in the Class of 2013. This is an extremely busy and exciting time for our young adults and their families. These last three months of school offer quite a variety of unique experiences — including school events and ceremonies, as well as many family activities. For your convenience, we have enclosed a schedule of the upcoming events. The first item of interest is the Gen- eral Schedule. Some of the dates may be subject to change if we have any snow days or school cancellations. The other pages provide some details concerning the Senior Banquet, Senior Prom and Senior Post-Prom Party. Please make note of these dates and events and take time to review them with your son or daughter. We want these events to provide positive learning experiences and pleasant life-long memories of their senior year. This time frame is also critically important to academic concerns. Although many seniors have been accepted to a college, university, technical/vocational school or other opportunity, it is important that they continue to strive for academic excellence. A great deal of important learning must take place during the last three months of school. The goal is not just to complete their senior year, but to finish well. This has been such an outstanding and extremely successful year for the Class of 2013 and we ask your help to ensure that it ends on a very positive note. Please remember that any suspension or disciplinary action of a seri- ous or disruptive nature will jeopardize your daughter’s or son’s participation in the Class of 2013 Graduation, Senior Prom, Senior Banquet, and other activities taking place in April, May, and June. There are NO approved senior “skip” days, and any sleepovers or unsupervised gatherings on school property are prohibited. Proper rest, adequate study time, and attendance on a daily basis are necessary for successful completion of their senior year. We hope that you will, as parents, support and reinforce these concerns to your son/daughter. No one wants to see any excesses or lack of effort impair and diminish the conclusion of the school year for our seniors. Their safety and continued positive development are our primary concern. This mailing includes information regarding our senior activities. Information cards will be distributed at the time of registration for the Senior Banquet and Senior Prom. Please have your senior secure the name, address and phone number of his/her Senior Prom date, along with the names of the date’s parents. Students should have this information when purchasing their Senior Prom ticket. PLEASE MAKE NOTE THAT – THIS YEAR – OUR SENIOR PROM WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, MAY 24, 2013. NASH WILL NOT BE IN SESSION ON MAY 24. The culminating activity for seniors will be the Class of 2013 Graduation Ceremony. It is scheduled for Friday, June 7, at 7:00 PM, in Newman Stadium. If the graduation ceremony must be postponed due to inclement weather, the ceremony will be conducted at the earliest possible time weather permits on Saturday, June 8 (10:00 AM, 2:00 PM, or 6:00 PM), or Sunday, June 9 (2:00 PM or 6:00 PM). In the event sudden severe weather prevents the ceremony from being completed outdoors, the seniors will be moved indoors to the Baierl Center for the award- ing of the diplomas. Space limitations necessitate that only parents be permitted admission if the ceremony must be moved indoors. With a graduation class of approximately 700, we expect over 5,000 guests at the ceremony in Newman Stadium. This number necessitates us to plan on maintaining a dignified and memorable graduation climate. We request your cooperation with our plans which you will receive in a separate mailing during the middle of May. Please be sure to submit a copy to the School Counseling Office of any scholarship award letter from the school/organization your student plans to accept. Only the awards accepted will be listed in the graduation pro- gram. A draft of the scholarship list will be posted for student review and correction before a final copy is sent to the printer. This information must be received by Friday, May 3. Thank you for your support. See you at the Class of 2013 Graduation!

Sincerely, Walter E. Sieminski William H. Young Matthew T. Buchak Principal Assistant Principal Assistant Principal

March, 2013

Dear Parents: We are soliciting support and contributions for the North Allegheny Scholarship Fund to help needy and deserv- ing seniors in the Class of 2013. Since 1956, the North Allegheny Scholarship Organization has provided scholarship assistance for hundreds of our graduating seniors. Last year, twelve $1,000 scholarships were awarded to seniors in the Class of 2012. Scholarship winners will be announced at the Class of 2013 Graduation Ceremony on June 7, 2013.

We need your support. The number of $1,000.00 North Allegheny Scholarships awarded each year is determined by the total contributions received from our North Allegheny staff, parents and community. Please check with your em- ployers to determine if they participate in a Gift Matching Program.

Your contribution is tax-deductible. District and community recognition is given to all patrons. You will be recognized in the Class of 2013 Graduation program and in other school and community publications.

If you wish to make a donation, please make your check payable to the North Allegheny Scholarship Fund and mail it to the North Allegheny Senior High School, to the attention of Ms. Nancy Fretwell.
