AUSTRIA - MOZART CYCLE ROUTE 2020 SELF GUIDED CYCLING-8 DAYS/7 NIGHTS-337KM

Beginning from his birth town of Salzburg, you visit many places where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart made stops during his journeys. The route leads across the lakes area of to the valley. From there cycle through the stunning mountain scenery of Northern Tyrol and the so-called "small German corner" back to the Mozart town of Salzburg. GRADE MODERATE: The route runs on flat and hilly terrain. Between the Inn valley and Salzburg there are some climbs, but you also enjoy lovely runs. You bike predominantly on cycle paths and light traffic side roads, which are mostly paved. Some brief sections of the trip (never longer than one or two kilometres) are covered on moderately busy roads.

ITINERARY Day 1: Arrive in Salzburg, the home of Mozart

Day 2: Salzburg – Chiemsee/ (approx. 64km) Your first stage leads you along the Salzach River to Oberndorf (“Silent Night” chapel). After passing the picturesque old town of Laufen on the opposite bank of the Salzach, you continue inland to the warm lake of Upper , Waginger See. Cycle via Nussdorf and reach Lake Chiemsee. Accommodation in Chieming/surroundings or in Traunstein.

Day 3: Chiemsee/Traunstein -Wasserburg (approx. 65 km) From Chiemsee cycle via Seebruck to Seeon, where Mozart visited and composed in the monastery. From Seeon cycle via Breitbrunn and Amerang to Wasserburg, where the famous artist used to rest during his travels. Those who commenced their trip from Traunstein today may cycle directly along Lake Chiemsee up to Gstadt and onwards via Breitbrunn and Amerang to Wasserburg.

Day 4: Wasserburg -Kufstein (approx. 67 km) The Inn River accompanies you all day on your ride to the Austrian city of Kufstein, the “pearl of Tyrol”. It’s easy cycling so little effort is required to fully enjoy your trip via into the Tyrolean country.

Day 5: Kufstein -Kirchdorf/St. Johann in Tyrol (approx. 45 km) The first few kilometres are along the Inn, before turning via Ebbs into the slightly hilly “Kaiserwinkl” of Tyrol. You pass the village of Walchsee and cycle via Waidach past Kössen through the imposing Tyrolean mountain scenery.

Day 6: Kirchdorf/St. Johann in Tyrol -Bad Reichenhall (approx. 48 km) Today's route leads you into Waidring and beyond to Lofer. Both places were also tour stops during Mozart's travels to the south. From Lofer, you continue your trip along a wild romantic cycle path next to the Saalach River until you arrive in Bad Reichenhall.

Day 7: Bad Reichenhall -Salzburg (approx. 48 km) On to Berchtesgaden, a charming little mountain spa town. A trip to the nearby idyllic Lake Königssee is a must before you cycle to Salzburg, where you will spend your last evening.
