Burleigh Waters Community Centre, 131 Christine Ave, Monday 9th September 10.30am - 1.00pm $65 Ba Gua Palms 八卦掌 Ba Gua Palm is unique as it combines the benefits of walking with the internal movements and deep abdominal breathing of internal Qigong practices, as well as the relaxed and calm mind-intention associated with meditation and the relaxation response. The element that makes circle walking "internal" is the link between mind and body that is forged during the circle walk practice. Engaging the mind-intention and body movements reprograms our neuromuscular patterns to work more efficiently by firing the right muscles at the right moment. This not only reduces inefficiency, but also optimises the strength and fluidity of the body. Secondary muscles are conditioned and the body learns to act in an integrated and unified fashion." Ba Gua Palm combines Tao Yin (leading qi exercises), Tu Na (breathing exercises), Nei Gong (internal exercises), martial art, Taoist meditation, Taoist alchemical practices, and other Yang Sheng (Life Nourishing) practices that date back at least as far as the early Han dynasty.

TAOIST EIGHT GOLDEN TREASURES The first movement mobilises energy from top to bottom and back throughout the body, and establishes harmony in the Three Burners. The second movement strengthens the kidney energy. Third movement stabilises the digestive organs and the place where terrestrial energy is assimilated. The fourth movement stabilises the distribution of blood and energy from the heart and lungs throughout the body. Fifth movement makes the spinal column more flexible. The mind also focuses on expelling all the consumed energies from this area that are sources for a variety of physical and mental disturbances. This impure energy is then dispatched into the Earth. The sixth exercise brings an abundance of vital energy into the nervous system. This vital energy feeds the medulla and the brain, augmenting their faculties and awakening their potential. The seventh exercise brings the energy from the interior of the body to the exterior. This exercise strengthens the muscular structure. The eighth exercise harmoniously redistributes all the energy stimulated by these movements throughout the body.

Zhang San Feng (Temple Tai Chi) Tai Chi was originally created by Taoist monk Zhang San Feng in the . Its philosophical foundation was based on the Yin Yang principle of balance. Mind-body harmony, and being in tune with the natural order of things, was at the core of Tai Chi practice. In this 21st century, Temple-style Tai Chi is still considered the most authentic and wholesome Tai Chi system. The original system has been preserved intact in the Wudang Mountain; with both mind and body discipline still the focus for health and longevity.

MASTER ZHOU grew up learning the traditional wisdom of the Taoists sages, almost without knowing that these skills were not widely known. Master Zhou was the Wudang Mountain martial art champion, later all Wudang Kung Fu Champion before he returned home to the quietude of Wudang to further develop his ‘internal art’. Master Zhou is the master instructor and “Keeper of the Taoist Five Dragon Temple Tai Chi” on Wudang Mountain.

To see Master Zhou in action is to witness “silent power in motion”. The intense energy he exudes when in motion epitomises the of Power Tai Chi.

All of this is easy to follow and understand because of Grandmaster Khor’s expert translation and explanations
