Wow, it’s end of the year…and what a busy year it has been!

There is important information about opening hours for some of the over the period in which Year 12s will receive their ATAR results. The universities are available to discuss change of preferences and can give advice of what to do if you are unsure.

Murdoch is offering a summer school course which looks interesting; please see the link for further information. Notre Dame is holding an ATAR Advice Day on 18 December which students and parents can attend.

Camp Counsellors USA

The “CCUSA Camp Fair” is where CCUSA have 21 U.S. Summer Camps and one Canadian Summer Camp visiting Australia for a national and promotion drive. The Camp Directors are primarily here to meet and hire staff for this upcoming U.S. Summer, June to August 2019.

However, the Fair is open to the public and students/parents who just want to come along to find out more about CCUSA’s programmes and to listen to what the Camp Directors have to say about life at Summer Camp and what they are looking for in applicants.

2 GREaT Nursing Programme 2019

The Get Real Experience and Try (GREaT) Nursing and Midwifery Work Experience Programme has been developed to encourage high school students to experience nursing prior to studying it with a state provider or at university.

The programme has been developed for Year 10 high school students to experience the many aspects of nursing and midwifery in a clinical setting while observing the team in action.

Over five consecutive days students will rotate through many areas previously not available to school students to find out what it’s really like to be a nurse or midwife and what nurses and midwives really do. Applications for the programme are open during the early part of Term 1 each year.

Applications for the 2019 GREaT Programme will open on 4 February 2019 and close at 5.00pm on Friday 8 March. The application link button will only appear and be active during this time.

(This is a great opportunity for Year 10s to do a nursing placement for their Work Experience. It may not be in our allocated Work Experience week but students may get approval to complete this programme if it is an area they are keen to pursue. Students will be expected to catch up on missed work)

iCanMed Free Workshop

Are you considering studying Medicine? If so, you will need to sit the UCAT. UCAT, the new UMAT, is an hour shorter, contains an additional 99 questions and is two sections longer than its predecessor. iCanMed is running a free workshop in December. Please register below.

The Murdoch Horizons Summer School prepares students who are transitioning from Year 11 to Year 12 for their Year 12 studies. Over three weeks, you’ll participate in lectures, tutorials and labs to experience university life and study. More information

Social sciences unit: HOR101 Freedom in the Age of the Internet Across the globe, the internet has given us access to more information and more choice than we’ve ever had before. This unit will explore whether this flow of information means we are freer as a society, and whether our society is more equal, open and understanding as a result.

Science unit: HOR102 Disease Detectives You’ll work as a disease detective, using modern laboratory methods, equipment and research skills to explore emerging diseases. See how disease detectives investigate epidemics and solve problems to identify microbes and reduce the damage caused by disease. You’ll learn about how living conditions, changing ecosystems and travel all contribute to the spread of disease.

Business unit: HOR103 Business as a Force for Good Informed consumers expect more from business. This unit looks at how business can be a force for good by addressing green procurement, modern and ethical supply chains as well as looking at new models for business, social licence to operate and their role in global development.

Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships

RURAL AND REGIONAL ENTERPRISE SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships of up to $18,000 are available to support students from regional and remote Australia to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) courses, including in health and agriculture.
