ENHANCING NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY AND HOUSEHOLD INCOMES IN

The agriculture sector in Uganda faces a number of challenges, which include operating at suboptimal levels, the prevalence of subsistence farming, inadequate investment, food and nutrition insecurity, and gender issues. In order to address these challenges, Phase 1 of this project was successfully implemented in Uganda from 2012 to 2014. On reviewing the successful results and lessons learned from Phase 1, the Government of Uganda identified that insufficient capacity was still the main constraint on agricultural development and food security. In view of this, Phase 2 of the project was designed to increase capacity, support the implementation of the Agriculture Sector Strategic Plan (ASSP), and promote trade and investment in agriculture, through the fielding of experts and technicians from China. ©FAO Uganda African Mushrooms Growers’ farm, Makindye Division,
