Our Commitment to Regionality

Alexander Berry was the first to grow grapes and make wine in the Shoalhaven in the mid 1800’s. He also had a substantial vineyard at North . In 1988 vineyards were re-established by Greg Bishop.

Our philosophy has always been to produce entirely Estate grown wines (we do not import our fruit) as we have wanted our wines to reflect the nature of the site in which they are grown. The French refer to this as ‘terroir’ which is the set of all environmental factors that affect the grapes phenotype, including unique environmental content, vineyard practices and the crops specific growth habit. Our wines continue to be made by our good friends at Tyrrells in the Hunter Valley with whom we have shared a great working relationship with over the last 30 years.

Coolangatta Estate is one of the most awarded vineyards in the country having won 1950 wine awards including 182 trophies and 300 gold medals. The Estate has won ‘Best Wine of Competition’ twice at the Sydney International Wine competition, ‘Best Wine by a Small Producer’ twice at the Sydney Royal Wine Show and is seven times winner of ‘Semillon of the Year’ at the Winestate Australian Wine of the Year awards. Our flagship wines are our Semillons which are regularly referred to as ‘world class’. Our aim is to continue to produce the best possible wines that this site is capable of.

‘What grows together goes together’. It doesn’t come much better than our Semillon matched with local oysters grown just a short distance away. We have always had a passion for regionality and especially with the use of regional foods in our restaurant. The 4 wines are matched with our best regional produce and we hope that you enjoy them.

Coolangatta Estate Tasting Wines

Coolangatta Estate Semillon - A more full-bodied style of Semillon, lifted and vibrant Semillon fruit with grapefruit and lime citrus twist on the nose. Rich full bodied Semillon flavour supported by creamy palate length balanced by a refreshing yet soft citrus acid. A perfect match with our locally grown oysters.

Coolangatta Estate Verdelho - The spiciness of the Verdelho compliments spicy seafood dishes.

Coolangatta Estate Cabernet Sauvignon - The wine is dark purple red in colour. Varietal red berries and briar are apparent on the nose. Accompanied by subtle supportive oak. The palate displays generous black fruit flavours and earthy undertones. The soft fruit and oak tannins give this wine its long and satisfying finish. This medium bodied wine works well our Milton Beef- Thai beef and noodle salad.

Coolangatta Estate Tannat - Deep and dark in colour with blackberry flavours on the nose, this brooding brambly wine has firm tannic structural background with savoury characteristics and a long persistent finish. An ideal food wine, the fruit and tannins compliment the Tilba Valley Real Dairy smoked cheddar.
