Cut two 36mm lengths of 1 x 4mm strip and glue them on of the three columns at the sides.

Retrieve the two sets of knees from Stage 85 and insert one of the into position. Glue one of the side knees up against the side of the , as shown.

Test-fit one of the larger knees from Stage 85 underneath the cathead. To get a tight fit up against the below, you may need to file some of them away.

Apply glue and fix the knee into position. When the glue has dried, touch up the areas of bare wood with black paint.

Drill two holes with a diameter of 0.8mm in the cathead. Place a nail into each hole.

Cut seven 6mm lengths of 1.5mm brass wire received with Stage 77.

Glue each of the 6mm lengths into the hinges. Make sure there is space to fit the other halves of the hinges – read through the next four steps before continuing.

Retrieve the seven hinges from Stage 77. Fit each hinge over the end of a 6mm length of brass wire.

Adjust the lengths of the hinges so that they are the same length as the depth of the stern section of false keel (see Step G).

Place the rudder in position up against the false keel and drill through the holes in the hinges, as shown. Glue nails into each of the holes and cut off the excess.

The rudder should now look like this, and it should be able to move from port to starboard.

Assemble the 13 hinged gun port frames from previous stages. Then, starting from the , glue them in place along the second row of gun ports from the bottom.

Retrieve the 28 assembled cannons and the thread from Stage 79. Cut a 150mm length of thread and tie it around the thinnest part of the cascabel, then secure the knot with a little glue. Repeat with the other 27 cannons.

Apply a little glue to the undersides of the wheels of each cannon carriage and place them along the sides of the main deck, up against the .

Drill a 0.8mm hole in the gunwales, to either side of each cannon.

Shorten the eyebolts and glue one into each of the holes, positioned as shown.

Using tweezers, pass the ends of the thread from the cannon through the eyebolts, from the outside, so they pass back towards the cannon.

Apply glue to the thread to secure it to the eyebolt, and remove the excess when dry.

Repeat this process for the remaining guns along the main deck.

Assemble the gun port frames and doors from this stage.

Paint the insides of the doors with red paint, as with previous gun port frames.

Remove the beakhead frames from the sheet received in Stage 85, then sand and stain them.

Cut four 3 x 14 sections of grating.

Smooth the edges of the grating sections with sandpaper.

Glue two of the grating pieces end to end, up against the side of B.

Glue frame C up against the other side of the gratings. All parts should be flush, and the two frames should be aligned centrally.

Glue the other two grating sections to the bare side of frame B.

Glue the two A frames either side of the .

Place the assembly from Step F on the step and up against the A frames. Mark a line from the edges of frame C to the edges of the A frames.

Carefully cut along the lines marked in the previous step. Then smooth along the cuts.

Paint the frames black, then, when the paint has dried, glue the assembly into place. When the glue has dried, paint the edges of the frames gold.

Remove the two inner and outer beakhead strips from the parts sheet provided with Stage 91.

Smooth the edges of the four strips with sandpaper. Before fitting them, it is advised that you soak them.

Glue the first beakhead strip up against the stem, the beakhead frames and the bow, as shown.

Glue the second beakhead strip above the first strip, against the step, frames and hull.

E

Repeat this process (Steps C-D) to fit the beakhead strips onto the other side of the stem.

This is how the bow should now look from the front. Check that the beakhead strips are evenly placed.

Paint the four beakhead strips with gold paint. Allow the paint to dry before proceeding.

Cut one of the previously assembled grating squares in half diagonally, then cut one of the halves in half again.

Use a sanding block to make the sides of the triangle section of grating even.

Glue the grating piece between the stem and the beakhead frames, as shown in the photos on the right.
