Omar graduated with a Bachelor of Law (with high honors) from Kuwait International Law School located at his hometown in Kuwait. Post- graduation Omar was a trainee lawyer at ASAR law firm in Kuwait. After that, Omar moved to work as an investigator at the Capital Markets Authority-Kuwait (SEC equivalent) . He still holds his position and will resume his job after graduating from Boston University. Omar aspire to become a law professor in the near future.

Albuquerque, Nazaré (Portugal) [email protected]

Born in Lisbon, Nazaré earned her first degree in law in the same city, at the University of Lisbon School of Law, in 2015. During her studies she was part of several bodies of the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA). Over the last two years, Nazaré has worked at the law firm Campos Ferreira, Sá Carneiro & Associados, where she focused on corporate and financial law. During this time, she has also volunteered one weekend every month at a housing project in the outskirts of Lisbon, driven by her Catholic beliefs and her determination to help broaden young children’s perspectives. Nazaré is a retired cellist, an enthusiastic ballroom dancer and a book lover, who thoroughly enjoys good music, whatever the genre.

Lauren Barrett is a 2017 Juris Doctor graduate from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. While pursuing her J.D., Lauren participated in an International Law and Legal Studies summer program in Madrid, Spain through the William and Mary Law School. There she studied corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, law of the European Union and global dispute resolution. This built upon her undergraduate study abroad experiences in Gothenburg, Sweden, where she studied international business methods, history of the European Union, and capital market analysis. Lauren’s areas of interest include corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and international business. In her spare time Lauren loves to explore different parts of the city and travel any chance she gets.

Janett obtained her J.D. from the Universidad de San Martin de Porres where she was co-founder of the Corporate Law Study Center. She obtained a Corporate Finance Degree at the Universidad del Pacifico.

She is a financial lawyer with 5 years of experience advising corporate, M&A’s and Banking and Financial Law matters. Securities and Financial Regulation experience in Peru and Latin America. She is passionate about Investment and Alternative Funds and disrupting investment vehicles (venture capital, fintechs, medical techs and social investments). In her free time, Janett enjoys playing soccer, reading, and traveling.

Cai, Siyu (P.R.China) [email protected]

Siyu got her Bachelor of Laws degree from China University of Political Science and Law in 2013. Then, she spent four years in Beijing Kangda Law Firm as an attorney at law focusing on corporation, securities and financial law. Her major clients are state-owned enterprises and multinational corporations in mainland China and Hong Kong. She had good position in the law firm, however, she found it was not enough. In order to pursue a higher position and achieve the further goal, an overseas educational background and a master degree is necessary. She decided to come to Boston University to extend her experience, to improve her legal knowledge and social network. She also wants to have more experience in Bankruptcy field in the future.

Aside from being a lawyer, Siyu is also a writer online. In her free time, she writes novels and reads comic books. She is a big fan of Marvel. She also loves cooking, skiing, diving and playing golf. She spends a lot of time on travel. She hopes to start a new life in Boston, meet more people and make friends with them.

Panning graduated with Bachelor of Law from the University of International Business and Economics in 2017, as well as bachelor of Finance. She interned in Tianchi & Juntai law firm (2015) and China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC, 2016) in Beijing. She is looking forward to the new academic year and willing to make new friends in Boston.

Fan, Shengyuan (P.R. China) [email protected]

Shengyuan obtained her Bachelor Degree of Law from East China University of Political Science and Law where she studied International Financial Law as major. During her study in Shanghai, she served as a full-time legal intern at the Shanghai Office of Stephenson Harwood LLP for six months in 2017. Her duty was to research and consult the up-to- date regulations of Shanghai Free Trade Zone and help the establishment of foreign companies. As a travel enthusiast, she traveled around Europe during her exchange term in Austria and is looking

forward to more voyages of discovery.

Born Abd Gafur, Gaga earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from University and was awarded Airlangga University Best Graduate. Prior to that, Gaga attended the Indonesian State College of Accountancy, diploma program in state treasury. He currently works at the Ministry of Finance Indonesia, Directorate General of Treasury, at the Jakarta headquarters. Before moved to Jakarta, Gaga served in several State Treasury Offices across . A book collector, a late- night reader, and a part-time writer, his first novel was published in Indonesia in 2015.

Gopaul has graduated with the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Natal (South Africa) and a Masters of Public Administration from Harvard University. He has been admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa. His business career involved Trading Derivatives, Hedge Fund Management, M&A and Raising Capital with various Investment Banks. On a personal note, he enjoys movies, wine and going to the gym.

Guler, Sezgi (Turkey) [email protected]

Sezgi is a 2014 graduate of Istanbul University’s school of law. Following her graduation, she gained experience in intellectual property, patent and trademark law, fighting software piracy in Turkey and other countries. She has been practicing banking and financial law for 2 years at GSG Attorneys at Law, a law firm founded by the partners of PricewaterhouseCoopers Turkey. Sezgi is a member of the Istanbul Bar Association and a sworn translator in English. On a personal note, she enjoys indulging her wanderlust – she is extremely passionate about exploring and outdoor activities. She also volunteers to provide legal assistance on matters concerning animal rights and likes to spend time with her rescue dog.

Jie (Michael) obtained his master of law from University of International Business and Economics in 2012, and his bachelor of law and bachelor of economics from Xiamen University in 2010. He was a member of the Xiamen University’s Moot Team and contributed to the team’s winning of the national champion in the China round of the 16th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in 2009. After graduation from law school, Jie joined the Beijing office of a top-notch law firm in China Haiwen & Partners, and he also worked in the Hong Kong office of Allen & Overy for one year. His practice focuses on corporate financing and investment funds. Jie is always open to explore. He likes basketball, gym, swimming, and now he is learning to be a fan of football. He is also fascinated by oil paintings, especially the works of Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet.

Jo is a Chinese attorney from Shanghai. She worked in ICBC, the biggest bank of China for one year and then practiced law in China for two years. Shirley is now working as a per diem court interpreter in Massachusetts Trial Courts. Before her life in the U.S., she obtained her degree of MSc in Financial Regulations from London School of Economics (LSE) as a Chevening Scholar. Shirley had been working in China for more than 10 years in Guangzhou and in Beijing, as an attorney, a banker in four of the biggest banks in the world, and the first trade officer in Consulate General of Israel in South China. Shirley graduated from law school at Jilin University in China, after she passed the bar exam in China and published her article in a top Chinese law journal. Shirley is super excited to go back to law school and highly motivated to study with her classmates. Shirley is now enjoying her study in the program ery much and loves to talk to her classmates whenever she gets a chance to talk to them. Shirley enjoys travelling, reading, hiking, museums and concerts, although in reality she spends most of her personal time in playgrounds with her son.

Dominik graduated with distinction from Ludwig Maximilians University Munich in 2012 where he specialized in Corporate Law, Financial Law and Insolvency Law. He received his Juris Doctor in 2015 from Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen. During his legal clerkship at the Ravensburg District Court, he did placements at the Commercial Chamber of the District Court and Gleiss Lutz lawyers. Currently, he is an associate in the banking and restructuring practice group of a German-based law firm. Dominik speaks English, German and French.

Nicholas obtained his Juris Doctor from Boston University where he participated in several student organizations. He was a member of the Student Government Association and the Dean’s Student Advisory Board, in addition to serving as a director of the Student Advising Program. He served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Marianne B. Bowler, of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Nicholas later served as a legal intern for the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation. Prior to BU, he obtained his undergraduate degree from Suffolk University, where he double-majored in Political Science and American History.

Born in Wuhan, China, Zeyu (Vincent) earned his Master of Laws in American Law from Boston University in 2017. Prior to BU, Zeyu gained his Bachelor of Laws from Jianghan University and Bachelor of Economics from Wuhan University as dual degree in Wuhan, China. Over the past four years, Zeyu did his internship as an assistant in Second Civil Tribunal of People’s Court of Wuchang District and the First Civil Tribunal of Higher People’s Court of Hubei Province. Now, Zeyu is looking forward to meeting new classmates and to having a whole new experience in BU Law.

Shanying (“Shine”) obtained her Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in American Law from Boston University in 2017 and earned her Bachelor of Laws in Economic Law from Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) in 2016. Before being admitted into the LL.M. program, she once worked as legal intern at Bank of China International (China) Limited Securities Company, providing legal advice about risk management to company on asset management. She also did a judicial internship in the District Court of Chongqing, China. For academic aspect, She participated the research group for 2013 National Rule of Law and Legal Theory Research, Ministry of Justice, conducting research on Rule of Soft Law in the Field of Economy at SWUPL. Her hobbies include international travel and painting. For the new academic year, she is looking forward to try new things, make friends and seek her own career path.

Xuepeng (or Leonard, as he prefers to be called) graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from East China University of Political Science and Law. He is registered to practice law in China and has completed the lawyer training courses at China Lawyer Association. Prior to attending the Banking and Financial Law Graduate Program, he has several long interns in China’s top law firms where he focused on representing listed company in China, capital market and M&A, among others. Beside of a determination to devote himself in those legal areas, he enjoys in playing basketball, soccer and jogging which he gets obsessed with in Boston.

Liya obtained her bachelor of law degree from Shaanxi Normal University in 2016. After graduation, she worked as an attorney assistant for half a year. To pursue a further study in financial law, she comes to BU with hope and passion. Liya could speak Chinese, English and a little Japanese. Álvaro (pronounced Al-baroh) earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from Diego Portales University (2012). After graduating, he gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics and Finance for Lawyers (2012), and another one in Business Management (2013); both from University of Chile. Finally, he obtained his LL.M. Master of Laws degree in Corporate Law from the Catholic University of Chile (2015). Since 2014, he has been working at the Chilean bank supervisor´s Legal Affairs Department (named Superintendency of Banks and Financial Institutions), where he is in charge of providing inputs for the banking and financial regulation drafting process. Although now retired, he has been a rock and roll drummer for almost 20 years.

Before joining to LLM Program, Selin graduated from Saint joseph French High School as valedictorian and she earned her first degree in law at Yeditepe University in Turkey and graduated in honor list. Selin has been licensed as a lawyer by İstanbul Bar Association in November 2016. She has worked in Ernst & Young Corporate Law Department during mandatory legal internship and as an attorney at law between 2015-2017.Now Selin is working for her family’s legal firm in Turkey. She speaks Turkish, English and French. She is musician, guitar player, amateurish writer and she likes travel and meet new people and cultures.

Kurnia attained her bachelor of laws from in Indonesia. She worked as a Compliance advisor in both Indonesia and Singapore with a demonstrated history of work in Banking industry. Her particular experiences and skills are in KYC-AML regulations, Insider Trading, Quality Assurance, Financial Risks and Foreign Exchange regulations. She received a full scholarship from the government of Indonesia for banking and financial law llm degree. She just recently completed her summer internship program in Santander Bank Boston as a BSA/AML Compliance intern in Compliance program and Governance team. She likes travelling and cook some steak!

He served as a legal intern at Banco Popular’s Corporate Compliance Division. Prior to law, he was an Honor Program’s member at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico where he received his B.A. in Political Sciences degree. Siri is currently a legal officer at professional level from Legal Execution Department, Ministry of Justice of Thailand, where providing services in civil judgment enforcement, bankruptcy cases, business reorganization, liquidation, deposit of property, and post-judgment mediation. She loves travelling, shopping, and exercises such as swimming, running, T25, and yoga. She really likes Thai food, especially green papaya salad. Finally, she enjoys hanging out with friends.

Wawan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Airlangga University and earned the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager certification from Indonesian Bankers Association. He is currently a senior manager of regulatory compliance in the Indonesian state-owned commercial bank, whose responsibilities include ensuring the company and its subsidiaries comply with law and regulation. Qingyi (or you can call her Zoe) graduated with a Bachelor of Law from East China University of Political Science and Law last year and has passed the National Judicial Examination. Before joining the LL.M program, she interned at three law firms in Shanghai. During the internship, she was responsible for searching regulations and cases, writing civil petitions, and defense, drafting the preliminary legal summary of due diligence and others. She wants to be a litigation lawyer working with government or bank. She likes jogging and listening to music.

Vijayabharati graduated Masters in laws in Intellectual Property Law from NALSAR, University of Law and completed Bachelor of Laws from Karnataka University. She also completed her Bachelors in Science from Kuvempu University. She worked as a Senior Legal Associate with LegalForce RAPC worldwide and as an Associate with Fox Mandal & Associates. In the law firms, she worked with the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) team and worked on trademark, copyright and design registration, IPR enforcement and drafting IPR related agreements, etc. She did judicial clerkship under Justice D. Y. Chandrachud judge of the Supreme Court of India. She had also done two internships with the law firms, Holla & Holla and Krishna & Saurashtri. Handling numerous financial and criminal cases led her to establish her own law firm where she has been working until she came to United States. Through her eight years of legal practice, she has also been continuously assisting in pro bono activities of Judicial Department. Mahnoosh speaks Persian, English, French and Spanish. Before joining the Graduate program, James had been in sole legal practice in Uganda with Kaala & Company Advocates, a family owned legal practice spanning for over forty years, where for nine years James served as the managing partner for the law practice. As an attorney, James has had diverse practice in civil litigation, administration of estates, conveyances of real estate, draftsmanship, company formation, whose main area of focus was in real estate and commercial transactions. Currently, James has diversified into corporate finance and banking with a concentration in bankruptcy and debtor reorganization.

Yiran graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in 2017. Out of interest, she majored in law and minored accounting in college. And now, she came to BU for further study. Yiran took an internship in a court and two full-time internships in law firms. She enjoys sports, reading, cooking and making new friends.

Bisera earned her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tirana in Albania, where she was a participant of the 2010 Willem C. Vis Pre- Moot in International Commercial Arbitration and of the Balkan Case Challenge (after winning the first prize in the Albanian Challenge). After graduation she worked in several law firms in Tirana, mainly focusing on corporate law, M&A, taxation and administrative law and during that time she also became a member of the Bar. Bisera came to the States three years ago and upon her arrival she registered for the Certificate of Paralegal Studies in the ABA-approved program offered at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, where she was also inducted to the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Bisera currently works for Bank of America, handling the documentation of commercial loans and overseeing the pre-requisite due diligence for non-real estate and real estate secured

loans. Her hobbies include travelling, exploring nature and attending social events.

Shiwen earned her LL.B. from East China University of Political Science and Law in 2012. When she was an undergraduate, she also obtained a Bachelor of Management in Accounting from Shanghai University of International Business and Economics. Due to her interest in socio- cultural studies, she spent a year studying social anthropology at University of Edinburgh, Scotland and earned a Master of Science in 2013. Before embarking on Boston University LL.M.
