CHARGERS SPORTS ACTION FEBRUARY 17-18, 2012

Weekend Re-Cap February 10-12, 2012

The Chargers hosted their final home games of the season this weekend with sell-out crowds packing the PISE gym to support and cheer on their favorite PACWEST teams.

It was another challenging weekend for the Chargers and volleyball teams who managed to claim only one out of six games played but on a positive note, it is confirmed that all four teams have qualified for the PACWEST Provincial Championships!

Both Chargers basketball teams went down hard on Friday evening to the UNBC Timberwolves (Prince George) who are among the strongest teams in the conference. Despite a great first quarter in which the Chargers women outscored the Timberwolves 22-18, the home team could not keep pace with the PACWEST’s No. 1 squad and were defeated 90-59. The Chargers men had an even tougher time trying to tame the T-Wolves who were unstoppable. At the buzzer, it was 117-77 with the visitors posting the highest triple digit ever seen on the Chargers’ scoreboard. The Chargers men move down one spot in the standings to No. 4 (9-5) while the women remain fifth at 6-8.

On Saturday and Sunday, fans were treated to two days of hard-hitting, exciting volleyball action as the Chargers faced off against the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades from Abbotsford. Though they were not able to put up a win, the Chargers women claimed four huge sets over the No. 4 nationally ranked UFV Cascades, pushing their opponents to five on both occasions. The women are fifth in the league standings with a record of 8-13. The Chargers men split their double header against Fraser Valley, falling in four on Saturday and following up with a straight set win on Sunday to secure their spot in the playoffs. The men hold their fifth place PACWEST standing and are 7-15 heading into the final weekend of play.
