Karni Mata is considered as Avataar of Maa Durga, Maa Sheronwali. Karni Mata was a female Hindu� sage born in the Charan caste and is worshiped as the incarnation of the goddess Durga in Deshnok, Bikaner, .

Karni Maa is deity of the royal family of and Bikaner. During the of lifetime, Karni Mata laid the foundation stone of two of the important forts in Rajputana.

As per the mythology in Rajasthan, Karni Mata is said to have birth in 21st month after pregnancy of her mother.

Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok, Rajasthan is having thousands of Rats in the Temple. Out of thousands of Rats, only 5 Rats are White in Color. It is said by the followers and Bhaktas of Karni Mata that these 5 White Rats are created by Karni Mata.

The pilgrims and followers are very keen to see the White Rat in the Temple as it is said that the person who see the White Rat is very lucky and the follower will have the blessings of Karni Maa.

The most famous temples of Karni Maa is located at , Bikaner and is said that at this place Karni Maa gave blessings to the followers and Bhaktas.

The temple is famous for its rats, which are treated as sacred and given protection in the temple. This temple is near to Bikaner and Nokha. The second name of Karni mata is (Nari bai).

The temple is also known as the Temple of Rats due to the rats that live inside the temple.

The at Deshnoke, 30 km from Bikaner in the path to National Highway 89 (NH-89), in its present form was completed in the early 20th century in the late Mughal style by Maharaja of Bikaner.

One more temple of Karni Mata is also located at Deshnoke. At this place Karni Mata did Tapasya for more than 100 Years.
