The original ship a Leander-class light cruiser built by Vickers Armstrong and launched 01/03/1934 at Barrow in Furness. Probably best known as the flagship with HMS Exeter and Achilles that forced the German Admiral Graf Spee into Montevideo Harbour and to finally scuttle herself in the Battle of the River Plate 12/1939. Decommissioned 02/1948 and scrapped 1949. Model has ivorine plate HMS AJAX CRUISER 1934-1949 to one side and MODEL MADE ENTIRELY FROM WOOD & METAL OBTAINED FROM JOHN CASHMORE LTD. NEWPORT. MON.
