Fifty Years Later, The Morning News Offers Firsthand Perspective on Defining Moment in Dallas History The Morning News continues commitment of exploring effects of JFK’s assassination on Dallas by offering a fresh, local perspective to this defining moment

(DALLAS) – As the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination approaches, North ’ definitive news source, , is continuing its more than yearlong commitment of offering a fresh, local perspective to this defining moment. The Morning News is facilitating community conversations and providing comprehensive news and historical coverage through numerous initiatives, including an engaging symposium exploring the effects of the assassination on Dallas, an iBook composed of reporter notes from the day of the tragedy, 1963 newspaper replicas and an educational partnership with Dallas ISD.

In January 2013, the Morning News began weekly installments exploring the many ways in which the JFK assassination has reverberated in Dallas, as well as how it has defined the city’s identity. These stories, along with photos and videos are available to everyone at JFK50.com.

Additionally, the Morning News has established the following JFK 50th anniversary initiatives to facilitate community conversations and showcase historical coverage:

• “Understanding Tragedy: The Impact of the JFK Assassination on Dallas”: Partnering with the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture, the Morning News will present a one-day symposium on Saturday, Nov. 2 to explore the effects of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination on Dallas. The symposium aims to foster reflection, discussion and an attempt to measure the impact from four perspectives: journalism, politics, art and the humanities and religion. The symposium will feature renown speakers including legendary journalist Jim Lehrer, who covered the assassination for the Dallas Times Herald; Peabody Award-winning journalist, Richard Rodriguez; winning author, screenwriter, playwright and journalist Lawrence Wright; and author and Yale Law School professor Stephen Carter. • JFK50.com: The online source for exclusive photos, videos and graphics on prominent historical figures, places and items associated with the assassination. In addition, the website offers a digital platform for people to share memories and reflections of the historic event.

• Page One Stories: From January to November 2013, the Morning News has published and will continue publishing stories examining the legacy of JFK, the impact of the assassination on the city 50 years later, the changing historical views of the event and different perspectives across the generations. • JFK Assassination: The Reporters’ Notes: This extraordinary iBook and coffee table book, created by the Morning News, chronicles the assassination of President John F. Kennedy through a series of first-person, original notes from The Dallas Morning News reporters who were on the scene of the assassination and witnessed the succeeding events. • Commemorative Box Set: A JFK50 Commemorative Box Set is available for purchase and includes a reprint of the complete edition of the Morning News from Nov. 23, 1963, 10 historic photographs, a transcript of President Kennedy’s “Unspoken Speech,” and three collectible JFK50 cards. • World Affairs Council: The Morning News is partnering with the World Affairs Council, as Dr. Larry Sabato, one of America’s preeminent political minds, speaks on the impact of the Kennedy assassination to Dallas, the nation and the hearts of people worldwide. • Dallas ISD Essay/Art Contest: The Morning News established an educational partnership to honor John F. Kennedy’s legacy through launching a K-12 essay, visual and performing arts competition; a K-12 physical fitness challenge; a ninth to 12th-grade Web conference with international schools; and a community service activity related to JFK.
