Setup for HCPL Electronic for Nook Devices (Nook Instructions Follow)

Before You Start, Make Sure You Have: Charged Nook; Computer with Internet Access (HCPL Computers CANNOT be used to download books to your Nook); A Cable to Connect Your Nook to Your Computer; an e‐mail address.

Note: if you have a Nook Color, Tablet, HD or HD+, please follow the instructions for Ipad, Ipod, Iphone or Android device

1. On your computer, go to www.hcplonline.org/books/download

2. Select Maryland Digital eLibrary Consortium.

3. Click Access the Consortium Website. 4. Click on Help (Question mark in the upper left of the screen) 5. Click on Get Software 6. Click Adobe ®Digital Editions.

7. Choose the installation for your type of computer (Mac or Windows). 8. Accept the terms and conditions. Click Install. The set‐up box will pop up. Accept the default setup by clicking “next” and “finish”. Digital Editions will now download to your computer.

9. There should be an icon on your desktop that looks like this

10. Adobe Digital Editions should automatically launch and the Set‐up Assistant box should appear. Once you get this box, click on get an Adobe ID online . This will bring you to a new window and this popup box will be minimized. Don’t worry. You haven’t lost it.

Click on Create an Adobe Account and fill in the form. You will need an email address. Only those fields with a red asterisk are required. 12. Go back to the Authorize Computer window. It might be one of the tabs at the bottom of your screen. Fill in the email and password blanks (use the password you just created.) 13. Click on Activate. 14. Click Finish. 15. You should see Adobe Digital Editions open on your screen.

16. Now plug your Nook into your computer. You may have to remove the plug end of your charge cord to reveal the USB port connection. 17. Authorize Device box will pop up. Click Authorize Device with the same email address you used at Adobe.com 18. Nook should appear on the left side of your Adobe Digital Editions bookshelf screen.

19. Congratulations! You are now ready to download books from the Maryland Digital eLibrary Consortium!

Before You Start, Make Sure You Have: Library Card in good standing; Charged Nook; Computer with Internet Access (HCPL Computers CANNOT be used to download books to your Nook); A Cable to Connect Your Nook to Your Computer; an Adobe Account (see Adobe Digital Editions instructions for details).

1. Make Sure Your Nook is NOT connected to your computer at this time. 2. Go to the Harford County Public Library website (http://www.hcplonline.org) in your browser on your computer. 3. Select on ‘Download Books’ (Under Find Books, Movies, Music on the left‐hand side drop down menu) 4. Select the Maryland’s Digital consortium logo 5. Select ‘Access’ the Maryland Digital Consortium Website (Overdrive) 6. Select Login. 7. Library: [select library] and choose Harford County Public Library. 8. Enter your library card number. 9. Select Search and find the title you want. (You can also use Advanced Search) 10. On the left hand side of the page, select your Format. You are able only to read Adobe ePub books on Your Nook. 11. When you find something you want, click on the cover 12. Click on the “Borrow” button 13. When you have finished selecting all your books click on the “Go to Bookshelf” button 14. Make sure you have selected the correct format (ePub) and click the download button. 15. If Adobe Digital Editions is not already open, a pop up box will ask if you want to open the book with it. Click Yes. 16. The book should pop up in Adobe Digital Editions on your computer. Click on the bookshelf icon. You should see the cover of your book/s in the right hand pane. 17. Connect Your Nook to your computer. 18. Click on the book cover and hold down the left mouse button. Drag and drop the book over to your Nook on the left hand pane. Your e‐book/s will copy to your Nook. 19. Unhook the Nook from your computer and look in your My Documents folder for your e‐book. 20. Open your book on your Nook and enjoy! 21. If you would like to return a book from your Nook early, you must do it on your Nook and your computer. a. Connect Nook to computer b. Open Adobe Digital Editions and select the Nook icon, then the book title. c. In the drop down menu, click “Return Borrowed Item.” d. Click on “All Items” bookshelf in ADE, find the book, select the drop down arrow, and then click “Return Borrowed Item.”
