Entrepreneurs may not have totally offerings to the felt at home then in the EMBA classroom, but this is the case benefit of all students no more. EMBA Programs are attracting entrepreneurs with a focus on the business of starting a business. In just three short years, EMBA Programs increased their instructional in-class hours for entrepreneurship from 25.1 in 2008 to 30.4 in 2010, according to EMBA Council Membership Program Survey Idata. Since small businesses are so critical to new job creation, EMBA Programs are a good resource for developing and fostering entrepreneurial spirit. Entrepreneurial studies also help students discover and hone their entrepreneurial spirit. What are programs offering, and how do all students benefit?

Executive MBA Council turns 30 years young In early 1981, on a cold winter day in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2011 a conversation in a local hotel lobby helped cast the dye for the formation of the Executive MBA Council. Chuck Hickman from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), Pete Lyon, who started the EMBA Program at the University of Houston, Chip Parks then at , and Ron Gist from 1 9 8 1 - 2 011 the University of Denver decided that it was time to bring 30 Idirectors and staff members from EMBA Programs together. Lyon volunteered the University of Houston for the location of the first gathering, known then as the Executive MBA Workshop. They expected 50 or 60 participants, but in the end, they couldn’t accommodate all those who wanted to attend. Since then, the Executive MBA Council–and the EMBA industry–has come a long way. In 2011, as the council marks its 30th anniversary, 400 participants are registered to attend the EMBA Council Conference in Key Biscayne, Florida.

In times of challenge there are always opportunities!

This is what I am reminded of when I think of what we have done as an organization to evolve, to grow, to become better. BRANDING/COMMUNICATIONS

The council distributed four issues of its online quarterly newsletter, EMBA News, which in addition to including news stories about the council and board and corporate member profiles, also highlights news and information from member schools. It also published two issues of Executive Connections, a print magazine for members. The council named the winners of its second Executive MBA Council video contest, which took place at the 2010 conference. Kent State University received top honors, capturing the gold medal, and The Ohio State University and Naval Postgraduate School won silver medals. The contest helps shine the spotlight on the many merits of the degree. In 2011, two new projects were launched to reach prospective students: a mobile application on the Executive MBA and EMBA Programs for the iPhone and iPad, as well as an eBook that offers prospective students a resource as they explore the Executive MBA. The EMBA app allows prospective students and others who are interested in EMBA Programs to search and compare EMBA Programs worldwide. For information on the eBook, see page 12. The eBook and the app can be downloaded through the council’s web site for prospective students at www.executivemba.org, which the council unveiled in 2010. Included on the site is a tool that prospective students can use to search and compare information about member Executive MBA Programs worldwide. The council also added two blogs to its prospective student web site—one from management and marketing consultant Tim Westerbeck, president of Eduvantis, LLC, and one that features member programs. Westerbeck’s blog also appears on the council’s member web site. MIl estones
