Dollar Academy Newsletter July 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians

I hope this newsletter finds you well. Whilst the end of session certainly looked and felt different, I know that many of you managed to watch and enjoy our end of term assembly and prizegiving. This included a short review of the year that I understand has been well received.

For many of you, I suspect our inspection feels like a lifetime ago. However, you may remember that in February we were joined by Education and the Care Inspectorate. Education Scotland reviewed every aspect of school life from curricular and co- curricular provision, to boarding, pastoral care and the promotion of diversity. The Care Inspectorate had a discreet focus on specific aspects of residential provision.

The inspection teams found an array of significant strengths in the school’s work including:

“The caring, family ethos across the school and boarding houses. Children and young people feel safe and very well looked after. They are known as individuals as a result of the staff’s team approach to ensuring the health and wellbeing of all."

“Highly articulate, motivated and respectful children and young people. They are rightly very proud of their school and their many achievements, including at national and international levels.”

“The outstanding range of co-curricular activities that provides enriching and memorable experiences for children and young people.”

“Highly successful approaches to supporting children and young people who require additional support in their learning or their wellbeing. The inclusive ethos in the school and boarding houses ensures that all learners who may have barriers to their learning can achieve their full potential.”

The inspection findings will be published in full on 14 July. I am pleased that the school has received a clean bill of health, with areas of our practice being regarded as sector leading.

Finally, I trust that the enclosed pupil achievements are of interest. After the strangest of summer terms, it reminds us of all the type of things we can look forward to in August, when the return of pupils to the campus is warmly awaited.
