SEPT. 22-28, 2011 2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.whatzup.com ------------------------------------------------------------September 22, ’11 whatzup Volume 16, Number 8 f it’s fall in northeast Indiana, it’s time for Auburn to go nuts. Hot on the heels of the town’s huge auto auction comes the annual DeKalb County Fair, which has the added attraction of being free. The fair offers up so muchI n the way of music that we could only touch on a couple of the acts (both on page 4) – country crooner Steve Holy, who co-headlines with Josh Kelley on Sept. 28, and Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, who take the main stage the following night. Our apologies to the aforementioned Kelley, along with Adelitas Way (Sept. 29) and Ryan Star (Oct. 1). All that’s a mere scratch of the surface that is this issue of whatzup. You’ll also find Deborah Kennedy’s feature on the Fort Wayne Ballet’s upcoming Celebrations show (page 5); Ashley Motia’s look at Hubb’s Groove, a smooth jazz act playing The Philmore on Broadway Sept. 30 (page 6); and Greg Locke’s fea- ture on 500 Miles to Memphis, a Cincinnati-based cowpunk outfit coming to CS3 Sept. 30 (also on page 6). We’ve also dished up some local Spins on page 7 – Mark Hutchins’ Liars Gift and Twenty-Five Thirty-Five from the post-punk TIMBER!!! That’s a lot to cram into a mere 28 pages, so we encourage you to get right to it and make whatever plans are necessary to get out of the house and have some fun before the really cold hits. Just tell one and all whatzup sent you.
