ADVENT is a special season of hope and prayer as we anxiously await the birth of our Lord In this Gospel reading, Mary travels to see her cousin Elizabeth, who and Savior. is pregnant with John the Baptist. When Elizabeth sees Mary, John the Baptist leaps within her. Elizabeth immediately knows this is because Mary is carrying Jesus, the son of God, in her womb. Nobody expected that Mary —a lowly Nazarene woman —would be the person to bring the Messiah into the world. And yet Elizabeth recognizes Jesus in her. We can still recognize Jesus in our world today. He tells us that whatevwhatever we do for those who are suffering and in need, we do for him ((MatthewMa 25:40). But it can be difficult to recognize Jesus in oothersth —especially in those who are suffering or left out.

Who in your life is most often left out? Why do you think that is? What can you do to include them?

Christmas the Cathedral

A Christmas MESSAGE FROM MONSIGNOR RUPERT See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and so indeed we are. -1John 3.1 On behalf of Bishop Joseph Bambera, Monsignor Thomas Muldowney, Father Jeffrey Walsh, and Father Jeffrey Tudgay, I extend sincere gratitude to all those who were so generous and thoughtful with cards, baked goods, and gifts that were sent to us the past few weeks. We are so very grateful for and humbled by your generosity! On your behalf, I extend my most heartfelt thanks to William Manley, who, along with Kathy Geiger so generously gave of their time and talent to decorate the Cathedral Church and rectory. As always, both spaces are beautifully appointed! I also extend my thanks to Linda Orseck, choir members, instrumentalists, cantors and other liturgical ministers — seminarians, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, altar servers, ushers, ministers of hospitality, and sacris- tans —for sharing their time and talents during the Christmas season, especially as we welcome many visitors to our Cathedral Church. Also, my sincere thanks to our dedicated and caring Parish Staff, who, each day ensure the smooth operation of our Cathedral. Our parish life is so greatly enhanced by the faithful and generous service of so many! Finally, my thanks to you - our faithful parishioners and friends - who share so generously the gifts given to you by our Lord. You are living witnesses of our Catholic faith in action and I am joyfully humbled to have the honor of serving as your pastor. As we celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas, God’s greatest gift to us, let joy be born in our hearts and in our lives . Let us inspire our world, that can seem lost in darkness, with the light of Christ and the light of our joy. Let us welcome strangers and travelers in our midst who come to celebrate the Eucharist. Greet with a welcome smile and gracious hospitality those, like Mary and Joseph, who are seeking room in the inn. May you and your loved ones be blessed with love and peace this Christmas Season and every day of the New Year! Merry Christmas Sincerely,

Monsignor Dale R. Rupert, Pastor
