Kavan O. Lake, USMC was appointed head coach of the Navy sprint football program in the summer of 2012. He is the 29th head coach in the program’s history. Assistant Coaches During his first year as head coach, the Mids went 6-1, taking second place in the CSFL. Navy Quarterbacks/Operations led the league in total defense, yielding an average of just 193 yards per game. The Navy offense Capt. Joe Taylor, USMC ranked second in the conference, averaging 316 yards per game. Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line 2nd LT Andrew Owens, USMC Lake began his career in the Marine Corps in 1993 and served as an F/A-18 power plant mechanic Running Backs/Special Teams at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort, S.C., and then MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. He was 2nd LT Bo Snelson, USMC selected for the Marine Corps Enlisted to Officer Program (MECEP) in 1998 and was later Offensive Line commissioned to 2nd LT in December 2001. 2nd LT Vinnie Curley, USMC Defensive Line After attending flight school in Pensacola, Fla., Lake was winged as a Huey pilot in July 2004 and 2nd LT Evan Campbell, USMC went on to serve in Iraq on two occasions between 2005-07 with the HMLA-369 “Gunfighters.” Wide Receivers ENS Jon Gazaille, USN Lake brings a strong football background to the Naval Academy as he was a two-year walk-on at Defensive Backs Florida State under legendary head coach Bobby Bowden. He was named to the Atlantic Coast ENS Jay Mann, USN Conference Academic Honor Roll on one occasion and went on to graduate from Florida State Defensive Backs/Special Teams in 2001. ENS Stephen Meidus, USN Linebackers Lake later earned a Master of Science degree in Manpower Systems Analysis from the Naval LCDR Jimmy Karam, USN Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.
