TITLE: DIRECTOR OF YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY

REPORTS TO: MODERATOR OF THE

FUNCTION: In answer to the call for a New Evangelization – the mission of the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is to fulfill the Gospel mandate to “go make disciples” (see Matthew 28:18-20) of youth (6th grade through high school) and young adults (18-35) throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. This mission is accomplished by offering world-class, life-changing events and by providing training, support, and networking opportunities to parishes and other institutions in the Archdiocese that serve young people. All position responsibilities are performed under the supervision of the , assisted by the Moderator of the Curia, and are carried out according to the teaching of the Roman .

SPECIFIC DUTIES: EVENTS • Oversee events including: o Annual Archdiocesan Youth/Family Conference o Annual Archdiocesan Junior High/Family Conference o Regional events (coordinate national speakers to tour parishes and schools around the archdiocese.) o Youth Work Camp o World Youth Day o NET (National Evangelization Teams) retreats o March for Life o NCYC o Annual Young Adult Retreat o Theology on Tap - Executed with Young Adult Ministry Team o Service Opportunities for Young Adults - Executed with Young Adult Ministry Team and Director of Christian Service TRAINING • Oversee training in youth ministry including: o Regular Youth Minister gatherings for training & fellowship (planned in conjunction with regional event speakers mentioned above) o Annual youth minister retreat o Oversee and support parishes in confirmation preparation. • Oversee and Young Adult Ministry Team. Offer regular gatherings for formation and ministry. Team is to be working, not advisory. OTHER • Present at parishes as appropriate. • Create and oversee development of website for youth, and a separate website for young adults. • Provide personal consultation for priests and youth ministers as requested. • Liaison between movements that serve youth and young adults in the Archdiocese and the Archbishop. • Stay current in best ministry practices and emerging movements and talents across the country in youth and young adult ministry, both Catholic and Protestant. • Oversee CYO. Create a plan to increase Catholic identity/more effective evangelistic component. • Maintain communications with all parishes youth ministers, campus ministers, teens, and young adults through e-newsletters and website updates. • Collaborate with other Archdiocesan Offices when possible to accomplish the mission of the Office.

REQUIREMENTS: We’re looking for a highly self-motivated person whose central passion in life is making the person of Jesus Christ and the genius of Catholicism known, loved, and lived! Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education or comparable theological field required. 5 years of experience in pastoral ministry to youth required. Additional experience in young adult and/or campus ministry preferred. Solid knowledge of Church teaching, catechetical documents, and current developments in youth and young adult ministry required. Must be a Catholic in good standing. Must be hungry, energized, and excited about ministering to young people and empowering others to do the same. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
