Mission Our commitment is to enhance the quality of life in Louisiana by providing the information necessary for individuals to assume responsibility for their own health by assuring the availability of basic health care services for those in need. STATE OF LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HOSPITALS Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Frederick P. Cerise, M.D., M.P.H. GOVERNOR October 31, 2005 SECRETARY Dear Fellow Louisianians: Immediately upon taking office, Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco established health care reform as the key priority of her administration, challenging individuals and communities to come together and identify ways to address their local needs with regard to health care issues, recognizing and acknowledging that it will take a combination of solutions statewide to improve delivery of health care in Louisiana. It was with this mission in mind that staff from the Department of Health and Hospitals’ Office of Public Health began drafting this 4th edition of the Louisiana Parish Health Profiles, which we are proud to be able to present at this time. We have, for many years, provided this vital community health information as a tool for local health planning to numerous individuals and organizations statewide. However, shortly before this publication went to print, the importance of our agency’s role in protecting and improving the public’s health and the essential need to have solid and timely information about our citizens, communities and health infrastructures became even more evident. On August 29 and September 24, 2005, hurricanes Katrina and Rita, respectively, slammed into Southeast and Southwest Louisiana and the surrounding Gulf Coast region, thereby drastically shifting our population demographics and health care resources. While much has changed in Louisiana since these health profiles were being developed, our overall priorities in best meeting the health care needs of our citizens has not changed. The commitment to provide each of you with the kind of information that you need to make smart choices—and decisions about your health and the health of your community—remains a steadfast priority. As Louisiana moves into its rebuilding process, the data contained in the Louisiana Parish Health Profiles and its continued update will provide guidance in state and local health planning activities. These Profiles will provide necessary baseline data on a parish, region and state level and will become especially helpful in hurricane-impacted areas. In addition, as we move forward in overall health systems development and health care reform, our hope is that you gain a greater understanding of the importance of having reliable information and benchmarks as priorities are set for responding to local and statewide needs. Please use these documents and the examples put forth in them as you work to ensure healthy communities and improve Louisiana’s health status. We hope that they will enrich and renew your efforts to make Louisiana a healthier place to live. FPC:blg OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY 1201 CAPITOL ACCESS ROAD • P. O. It argues that this connection was not integral to the character as he was originally created, but was imposed by later writers over time and mainly for cinematic adaptations. This thesis also tracks the history of how Christians and churches viewed Superman, as the film studios began to exploit marketing opportunities by comparing Superman and Jesus. This thesis uses the methodological framework of intertextuality to ground its treatment of the sources, but does not follow all of the assumptions of intertextual theorists. iii MA Thesis—Robert Revington; McMaster University, Religious Studies ABSTRACT This thesis examines the historical trajectory of how the comic book character of Superman came to be identified as a Christ figure in popular consciousness. Superman was created in 1938, but the character developed significantly from his earliest incarnations.

  • Battlestar Galactica Mini-Series
Seawolf's Den Seek the Wolf in Thyself! http://seawolfsden.net Verdict - Battlestar Galactica mini-series Author : Ron McClung Categories : BSG (new) Date : December 8, 2003 What is it about purest that makes them so stuck on one way of doing things? Change is good. I’ve been browsing the web lately, finding Battlestar Galactica sites to see reaction to the new mini-series. I cannot believe the fury over the mini-series. There was reasonably strong support for a continuation of the original instead of a re-make/re-invention. I have seen Richard Hatch speak of this continuation revival at DragonCon and other smaller cons at least 4 times, and have seen the trailer he created for his concept. But I do distinctly remember coming out of seeing the trailer thinking “Man, most of those people are simply to old to be doing that now.” and just how hoakie some of that stuff looked. I was excited about the possibility of Battlestar coming back, but Hatch’s concept was not hitting the mark for me. Although I liked the original cast and wished we could get them all, some have died and doing it without them would just not be right. Also, those that I know who have read Hatch’s BSG books say they are way too centered on Apollo (his character) and his ascension to demigod-hood. Well, needless to say that there are strong feelings on both sides – reinvention vs. continuation. I considering myself pretty well plugged in to the sci-fi fandom of the Charlotte area and a vast majority of folks loved the mini-series here.

  • Meticulous World-Building in Space: the Expanse, and the Current Resurgence of Science Fiction on TV Tobias Steiner, Cstonline, March 17, 2016
http://cstonline.tv/sci-fi-tv Meticulous world-building in Space: The Expanse, and the current resurgence of Science Fiction on TV Tobias Steiner, CSTOnline, March 17, 2016 It’s been one of those days. The Christmas holidays had been lurking around the corner, and finally I had some free time on my hands, between the formal end of the academic calendar of 2015, and the big celebration rush that we tend to throw ourselves into, meeting up with family and long-time friends.Free time - priceless. And somewhere, somehow, I had come across an announcement that a new SciFi show would be airing on SyFy; title: The Expanse. Rumour had it this show would be the next big thing, with ambitions to fill the shoes of the mighty mid-2000s re-imagination of Battlestar Galactica (SyFy, 2003/4-9). Battlestar Galactica (or, simply, “BSG” as it used to be called by its loyal fans), one of those early specimens of “ComplexTV” (Mittell, 2015) that, back then, had left me tremendously impressed with its unique, gritty way of storytelling, visual composition, and a narrative that invited audiences to engage in quasi-philosophical questions of technological determinism, religion, existentialism, and Othering in relation to the Here and Now. Over the years, a veritable collection of reviews, essays and anthologies such as Cylons in America or BSG and Philosophy, accumulated a diverse spectrum of academic perspectives, dissecting the layered multiplicity of the narrative, and its cultural relevance as a Science Fiction allegory on post-9/11 United States and the War on Terror.

Mr. Wydey’s TV Series Episode Guides Stargate SG-1 Seasons 1-10 The Stargate films This collection of notes offers a strictly personal take on the whole of the Stargate SG-1 universe, as seen on television. The reports were gathered over many years as the episodes unfolded on Sky TV as seen by a Virgin Media customer. Until the Great Disaster of 2007. As will be revealed in due course, Sky and Virgin had a falling out and they did not make up for several years. The last couple of episodes of series 10 were not made available to your reviewer until 2011!! Of course, other TV channels have picked up the torch, and although Sky continues to show SG-1 in dribs and drabs, the Pick channel allowed fans to see the whole thing right from the start on weekdays from Monday to Friday, and at the time of this edition’s publication, Pick was showing everything for a second time. As well as living on in digital TV heaven, the world of the Stargate is also available on DVD. And there are two complete fan-fiction novels in the RLC collection currently, and another is in preparation. Clyde E. Wydey, May 2018 F&F BOOKS www.FarragoBooks.co.uk All rights reserved.
