Sports Programnr:41495Ra9 Over to You ht 2004 Guess What or Who - Sports Programnr:41495ra9 GUESS WHAT OR WHO - SPORTS Manus: Claes Nordenskiöld Producent: Claes Nordenskiöld Sändningsdatum: 10 november 2004 Längd: 9’30 MUSIC: Guess What or Who… Theme Song (The Red Hot Chili Peppers “I Like Dirt” and Public Enemy “Fight the Power”) CLAES NORDENSKIÖLD: Hi and welcome to the seventh programme in our popular series Guess What or Who. This time we’re zeroing in on SPORTS, or actually the athletes – a few shining stars of sports. You’ll hear someone speak about a specific athlete – your job is to figure out what his or her name is. We have a new panel which consists of Leigh… LEIGH NOREN: Hi. CN: …and Kaitlin. KAITLIN NORDENSKIÖLD: Hi! CN: Alright, let’s get started. I assume that you have the worksheet in front of you. There you see four different names by each number. You should choose one of those by ticking the box. If you don’t have the worksheet, just write down your answers on a piece of paper. We’ll give you the correct ones at the end of the programme. Here’s our first athlete. A Swedish ice hockey player… Take it away Leigh. LN: This is one of the real stars of Swedish ice hockey. He was born in 1973 and today he plays in the National Hockey League, the best league in the world. He often plays in the centre position of the line-up. In Sweden he played for MoDo from Örnsköldsvik. He has become Swedish champion as well as winning the Stanley Cup for his team in the NHL and becoming the league’s MVP, Most Valuable Player. At one time his father was the coach of the Swedish National Team, Tre Kronor. 1 Over to You ht 2004 Guess What or Who - Sports Programnr:41495ra9 CN: Who did Leigh describe? You can choose between Peter Forsberg, Markus Näslund, Mats Sundin, and Henrik Zetterberg. MUSIC: Pearl Jam “Sad” CN: Here’s our second athlete – a tennis player… KN: He was born in 1982, in Nebraska, so he’s fairly young. Both his father and his brothers have played top tennis, and he himself won his first Grand Slam title in 2003 when he won the U.S. Open. He was also ranked as the number one player in the world that year. He is considered to have one of the fastest and hardest serves in the game. CN: Which tennis star did Kaitlin describe? Choose between Roger Federer, Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, and Andy Roddick. MUSIC: Pearl Jam “Sad” CN: So, time for question number three. Here’s Leigh who’s going down on the court to slam-dunk and tell you about a basketball player. LN: He’s 7 feet 1 inch tall, and was born in New Jersey in 1972. He’s been a pro in the NBA, The National Basketball Association, for more than 10 years, starting out playing for the Orlando Magic before moving out to California and joining the Los Angeles Lakers, and now he’s back in Florida. He always plays in the centre position on the team, and he has won the NBA title three times with the Lakers. CN: Which basketball superstar did Leigh talk about? Was it Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neill, or Michael Jordan? MUSIC: Pearl Jam “Green Disease” CN: And now, here’s Kaitlin with number four. It’s time to use the 5 iron and hit the green! KN: This player was born in 1970, and is still young for a golf player – one of the few sports where you don’t have to retire at the age of 30. The player started out on the European golf tour in the early 90s, and has already won more or less all there is to win on a golf 2 Over to You ht 2004 Guess What or Who - Sports Programnr:41495ra9 course. This includes winning the U.S. Open two times and more than 125 million Swedish crowns in prize money by the end of 2003, the same year that this player was named the world’s best athlete. CN: Who’s our golf great presented so eloquently by Kaitlin? Is it Tiger Woods, Annika Sörenstam, Michelle Wie, or Jesper Parnevik? MUSIC: Pearl Jam “Green Disease” CN: On to five. We’ve come to the world’s biggest sport – football, or soccer or as they call it in the U.S. Here’s Leigh. LN: This player is a major star – one of the biggest names in football for the last five years or so. Today he plays midfielder for the Spanish club Real Madrid, among a bunch of other superstars of football. He’s almost 30 years old and has represented his country’s national team many times. He is just about as famous off the football pitch as on it, and has become known for changing his hairstyle as often as his football shoes. CN: Who is the football great? Choose between Michael Owen, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, and Luis Figo. MUSIC: Pearl Jam “You Are” CN: And after football, here’s the sixth athlete…a football star again. This time from Brazil. Here’s Kaitlin. KN: He was born in 1980 in Porto Alegre, and both his father and older brother were professional players. He left Brazil in 2001 to play in France, but is now on the squad and star of Spanish team Barcelona. He’s a forward or midfielder – always with a big smile on his face. CN: Who is our second football great? Is it Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, or Rivaldo? MUSIC: Pearl Jam “You Are” CN: Now to number 7 – a male athlete. 3 Over to You ht 2004 Guess What or Who - Sports Programnr:41495ra9 LN: This athlete was born in 1971 and grew up with his mother in a small town, I won’t say in which country. He has become known both as an incredible sportsman, but also as a cancer survivor. In 1996, in the middle of his career, he was diagnosed with cancer, but he was able to fight the disease and come back to competition. He has participated in the Olympics and won Tour de France an amazing five times in a row. CN: Who’s the male athlete? Is it Lance Armstrong, Christian Olsson, Michael Schumacher, or Stefan Holm. MUSIC: Pearl Jam “Sad” CN: And now to the last name. This time we’re looking for a female athlete. KN: Her career has not been straight to the top – at least not in her main sport. She was actually an extremely good basketball player during her teen years, but finally in her early twenties she changed sports for good. Born in 1975, she is the only woman to have won five Olympic medals in the same games. CN: Which athlete did Kaitlin describe? Was it Anja Pärson, Carolina Klüft, Marion Jones, or Serena Williams? MUSIC: Pearl Jam “Sad” CN: So you’ve chosen eight alternatives – now we’ll give you the correct answers… And we start at number 1. MUSIC: “Guess What or Who… Theme Song – Ending” (Eminem “The Way I Am”) KN: Number one was Swedish hockey magician Peter Forsberg. CN: Number 2. LN: …two was Andy Roddick, the young American who most likely will stay at the top of tennis for many years to come. CN: And number 3. 4 Over to You ht 2004 Guess What or Who - Sports Programnr:41495ra9 KN: Number three was Shaquille O’Neill, or simply Shaq for all you basketball buffs. CN: ..and 4… LN: …was the one and only Annika Sörenstam, the queen of golf. CN: Then we have 5… KN: Possibly the most famous person in the world whether he plays football or not – David Beckham. CN: Here’s number 6. LN: Six was Ronaldinho, the amazing Brazilian dribbler. CN: And number 7. KN: Lance Armstrong, the American cyclist who’s done the impossible by overcoming cancer as an active athlete, and winning the hardest cycling race five times in a row. CN: And last but not least we have 8. LN: Which was Marion Jones. CN: Now you have all the correct answers – a bunch of incredible athletes, and our time is just about up. KN: We hope you enjoyed this quiz… LN: We do have time for the final theme music, don’t we? KN: Hope so… CN: I’m sure we do… KN: Definitely. LN: Yeah, here it comes. Bye-bye. MUSIC: “I Like Dirt” The Red Hot Chili Peppers 5.
