The Book of Hebrews

Hebrews 3; 5; 7

The write of Hebrews wanted to help God’s people understand how Jesus fulfilled the promises God made in the Old Testament Scriptures. The writer said that Jesus is better than anything that the people had before including the high priest.

The high priest offered gifts and for sin. He served God for the people. The high priest was a human so he understood what temptation, sin, and weakness were. The high priest not only offered scarifies on be- half of the people, he also had to offer scarifies to seek God’s forgiveness for his own sins.

God chose each high priest. Jesus was chosen by God to be our great High Priest. Jesus is the source of eter- nal salvation.

God promised to send a priest who was also a king. Who did God send? Jesus! Jesus is the assurance of a better covenant, a better hope.

The were temporary because each one eventually died. Jesus is our priest forever. Because He is permanently the great High Priest, Jesus is able to save those who repent and trust Him as their Savior and Lord.

We need a perfect, holy, sinless high priest. Because Jesus was holy, He did not have to offer God a sacrifice for His own sin. Instead, He gave Himself as our perfect, holy sacrifice, once and for all to pay the price for our sin. Key Points:

• Jesus is our great High Priest forever. Wooden Cross Craft

Tools: black construct paper, pencils, scissors, glue sticks, toothpicks, clear contact plastic (optional)

• Ask your child to draw a cross on the black construction paper and cut it out.

• Cover the cross with glue.

• Lead them to use toothpicks to cover the cross. Children can break toothpicks into various sizes to make their crosses more ornate and decorative.

• Consider adding clear contact plastic on top of the cross to keep tooth- picks in place.

• Remind them that Jesus is our great High Priest—He paid for our sin once and for all when He died on the cross and rose again.
