1 AN ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION urging the United States Senate to 2 pass a Senate Resolution congratulating the U.S. Women’s 3 National Team on winning the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup 4 championship. 5 6 WHEREAS, Enthusiasm and support for women’s soccer has increased 7 significantly in recent years; and 8 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team defeated Thailand, 9 Chile, and Sweden in shutout matches during the group stage of the 10 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament; and 11 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team defeated Spain, , 12 and England in the knockout phase of the tournament before 13 defeating the Netherlands 2-0 in the final match; and 14 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team became the first 15 women’s world cup team to win a fourth FIFA Women’s World 16 Cup title by defeating the Netherlands 2-0 in the 2019 FIFA 17 Women’s World Cup final; and 18 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team’s 2019 FIFA Women’s 19 World Cup championship victory marked the team’s second 20 consecutive Women’s World Cup championship; and 21 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team broke numerous 22 records during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament, 23 including scoring the most goals in a FIFA Women’s World Cup 24 tournament, scoring the highest margin of victory in a FIFA 25 Women’s World Cup match, and scoring the most goals in a FIFA 26 World Cup match; and 27 WHEREAS, U.S. Women’s National Team members and 28 Tobin Heath are natives of New Jersey; and 29 WHEREAS, The members of the U.S. Women’s National Team 30 personified American values through their exceptional display of 31 dedication, fortitude, and sportsmanship throughout the 2019 FIFA 32 Women’s World Cup; and 33 WHEREAS, A U.S. Senator from New Jersey, Senator Robert 34 Menendez, introduced Senate Resolution 296 on July 31, 2019, 35 congratulating the U.S. Women’s National Team on their 2019 36 FIFA Women’s World Cup championship victory; now, therefore, 37 38 BE IT RESOLVED by the General Assembly of the State of New 39 Jersey: 40 41 1. The General Assembly of the State of New Jersey urges the 42 U.S. Senate to pass a Senate Resolution congratulating the U.S. 43 Women’s National Team on winning the 2019 FIFA Women’s 44 World Cup. 45 46 2. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, 47 shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the

1 Majority and Minority Leaders of the United States Senate and 2 every member of the United States Senate elected from this State. 3 4 5 STATEMENT 6 7 This resolution urges the U.S. Senate to pass Senate Resolution 8 296 congratulating the U.S. Women’s National Team on winning 9 the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. 10 The U.S. Women’s National Team’s dominance in international 11 women’s soccer can be traced back to the team’s establishment in 12 1985. Since the U.S. Women’s National Team’s inception, it has 13 won over 25 international championships, including four Olympic 14 gold medals and four Women’s World Cup championships. The 15 U.S. Women’s National Team’s championship victory in the 2019 16 FIFA Women’s World Cup marked the team’s second consecutive 17 FIFA Women’s World Cup championship, making it only the 18 second team to win back-to-back FIFA Women’s World Cup 19 championships. 20 The members of the U.S. Women’s National Team exhibited 21 tremendous skill and fortitude during the 2019 FIFA Women’s 22 World Cup and broke numerous records on the team’s path to 23 victory. The U.S. Women’s National Team’s on- and off- the field 24 achievements exemplify American Values and inspire female 25 athletes across the nation.
