PROPOSED REFURBISHMENT OF RADIOLOGY UNITS AT SELECTED DISTRICT HOSPITALS IN – LOT 2 (ADJUMANI GENERAL HOSPITAL, GENERAL HOSPITAL AND BULIISA GENERAL HOSPITAL)

ANNEX I - STATEMENT OF WORKS (SoW)

Executive Summary

The project will be undertaken to refurbish radiology examination rooms and adjoining areas within the radiology units at the selected district hospitals in Uganda. The existing radiology examination rooms are in need of some refurbishment to ensure improved safety and working environment. The main elements of the proposed refurbishment works are related to occupational safety of the radiology staff and patients, such as the construction of solid radiation protection walls, replacement of existing semi solid wooden doors with radiation shielded lead-lined doors, adjustment of window levels to recommended 2m height, and replacement of screed floors in the examination rooms with tiled/terrazzo/vinyl flooring. The refurbishment works are proposed to rectify the non-compliances in the existing radiology units as per the in recommendations and guidelines set out in the Ministry of Health Standards on Diagnostic Imaging and Therapeutic Radiology for Uganda, 2012. All the X-Ray facilities assessed have currently an average workload of 10 – 15 cases per day. With the installation of new equipment and improved efficiency and reliability of service the case workload is projected to double to 20 - 30 cases per day.

Scope of Works

1. Existing Walls . Clean with wire brush to remove dust and debris . Apply 1 undercoat and 2 coats of acrylic paint to match original colour . Finish skirting to match existing skirting

2. Ceiling . Repair damaged/missing ceiling panels as necessary

3. Floor . Floor repair and polishing of existing terrazzo/terrazzo tile flooring. Repairs to match existing and if not possible to UNOPS Site Engineer’s recommendation.

4. Roof . Repair any leakages in the existing roof cover (IT4 iron sheets)

5. Doors and Windows . Replace all non-shielded doors in the X-Ray examination room with certified lead-lined doors fitted as per schedules. . All windows below 2.0m sill level to be removed & replaced and openings filled and made good. New steel casement windows with fixed glazed panels to be fitted as per schedules. . Construct masonry infill to raise window sill level above 2.0m, making good all wall finish to match existing wall surfaces.

6. Radiation protection barrier wall . Construct 250mm thick burnt clay brick masonry wall 2.5m high with bedded with 3mm thick lead sheet, wall to be finished to match the existing internal wall finish. . Supply and install view window with 400x400mm lead-lined frame with 350x350mm x 16mm thick lead glass (5mm lead equivalent) including aluminum architraves.

7. Electrical Works . Remove all existing extraction fans and fill the openings and finish to match existing wall surfaces. . New split AC units in the examination room and darkroom. . Replace any damaged/nonfunctional power outlets, light control switches and electrical wiring. . Provide cable ducting for extending/relocating and re-routing any power outlet positions. . Floor/Wall to be chased and made good where required for new conduits and wiring.

8. Plumbing works . Replacement of damaged and missing faucets . Repair and replacement of blocked and rusted drainage piping, fixtures for WC & WHB. . Reconnection of water supply to the existing plumbing fixtures.

9. Signage . Supply and install standard radiation warning signage in English and translated to local language.

10. Shelving . Supply and install wooden wall shelving units to wall as per the layout in the plans.
